As a long-time follower of Kannada cinema and someone who has witnessed the meteoric rise of Yash, it is disheartening to see his much-anticipated film “Toxic” embroiled in controversy. The illegal cutting of trees for set construction is not only a violation of environmental regulations but also a slap in the face for those of us who value our greenery and natural resources.
One of the much-awaited films of 2025, titled “Toxic,” features Yash as the leading actor. The filming of Geetu Mohandas’ directorial is progressing swiftly. Unfortunately, there have been reports that the production of “Toxic” starring Yash has been embroiled in a controversy due to the illegal felling of trees for set construction.
As reported by PTI, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre instructed officials on Tuesday to impose disciplinary measures against those who authorized tree cutting on forest land used for the construction of the Toxic movie set. He also personally inspected the location where the film was being filmed.
In a note to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment, he pointed out that 599 acres of gazetted reserve forest land in Bengaluru’s Peenya Plantation 1 and Plantation 2 were unlawfully transferred to Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) in the 1960s without proper de-notification.
According to a quote attributed to the Forest Minister by PTI, it was alleged that HMT had unlawfully transferred the forestland under their control to various government bodies, private entities, and individuals. Activities not related to forests have been observed in this area. The satellite image clearly shows deforestation happening within this forest region.
He noted that he recently became aware that HMT has been leasing out the forest land under its control for film shoots and renting out open areas on a daily basis.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to emphasize that illegally chopping down trees on forested land is an action that comes with consequences. By examining past and current satellite images from the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre, I’m urging for information regarding how many trees have been felled without proper authorization and whether the necessary permissions in accordance with regulations were obtained.
He ordered officials to take appropriate actions, such as imposing penalties or sanctions, on the officer responsible for permitting the tree cutting.
In summary, the Forest Minister emphasized that any official given authorization to fell trees in the forest would face disciplinary measures. Additionally, it’s crucial to file a case for forest offenses involving anyone found illegally cutting down trees within the designated area.
Meanwhile, Yash starrer Toxic will hit the big screens on April 10, 2025.
