As a die-hard fan who has been following the Fast & Furious franchise since its inception, I must admit that the viral trailer for Hobbs & Shaw 2 has me both excited and skeptical. While the prospect of another adventure with my favorite duo, Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), is tantalizing, the fact that the trailer appears to be fan-made leaves me questioning its authenticity.
As fans eagerly wait for the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, titled Hobbs & Shaw 2, a popular video has sparked debate about its legitimacy. Some are questioning whether it’s genuine and if Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will reprise their roles in Hobbes & Shaw 2 before or after Fast X Part 2. Here is what we currently know about the trailer and the eagerly anticipated sequel.

The above trailer features Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as the titular characters. It also brings back Vanessa Kirby as Hattie Shaw. Moreover, it adds Mélanie Laurent as a new character, using her scenes from Now You See Me. Along with that, the video uses AI footage and scenes compiled from the previous Hobbs & Shaw outing and Statham’s The Beekeeper. This further proves that it’s fake.
Will Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham return for Hobbs & Shaw 2?
In simpler terms, Dwayne Johnson, known as Luke Hobbs, reappeared in Fast X. There’s a possibility he might return again for the last installment of the main franchise. But that’s not all! He’s also confirmed to star in Hobbs & Shaw 2, teaming up once more with Jason Statham.
According to Hiram Garcia from The Wrap, they’re working on drafting the script for the upcoming sequel of Hobbs & Shaw. Despite its massive $760 million global earnings and an ideal setup for a follow-up in 2019, progress on Hobbs & Shaw 2 has been moving at a more leisurely pace. Meanwhile, Johnson has been occupied with various other endeavors.
In the upcoming Moana 2 and its live-action adaptation, Dwayne Johnson will lend his voice to Maui and reprise his role as the character. He has also been confirmed for Jumanji 4, due in 2026. Given his busy schedule, it may take some time before we see him return in Hobbs & Shaw 2.
