As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours exploring the dark and enchanting world of Wraeclast, I must admit that this news about Path of Exile 2’s delay has left me a bit crestfallen. However, as someone who understands the intricacies of game development, I appreciate the decision made by Grinding Gear Games. The server-side infrastructure is the heart of any MMO, and it deserves the utmost attention to detail before releasing it into the hands of thousands, if not millions, of players.
After years of development, Grinding Gear Games has been meticulously preparing for a seamless debut of Path of Exile 2. However, it seems the release will take slightly longer than anticipated. On Monday evening, Game Director Jonathan Rogers revealed that the initial access launch for Path of Exile 2 won’t meet its November projection and instead is set to debut in early December.
Rogers shared some disappointing updates in his video message. It means we need to push back the early access by three weeks now, with the new date set for December 6th.
Rogers is citing issues with server-side infrastructure as the key reason for the delay. With Grinding Gear having previously pledged to allow all microtransactions from the original Path of Exile to carry over to its sequel, it turns out that the execution of this promise is more time-consuming than it sounds. This is especially true given that the team has to repeat this process for the game’s console version. Rogers personally issued an apology to the Path of Exile fanbase for the delay.
The initial plan was for Path of Exile 2 to start its early access phase on November 15. However, Rogers clarified that the game’s readiness was not the reason for the delay, suggesting that it might be prepared and running smoothly. Since we had a chance to play a part of the game earlier this year, our assumption is that his statement holds true.
Starting on December 6, you’ll have an opportunity to access the early phase of Path of Exile 2. However, there might be a few additional requirements to play. To find out more, don’t forget to check out our detailed guide on Path of Exile 2 early access.
