CS2: NBK- becomes Restricted Free Agent, allowed to leave Revenant

As a long-time fan of CS:GO, it’s always bittersweet to see a legend like NBK- searching for a new team again. His journey through the years has been nothing short of extraordinary – from his two Major wins with Team LDLC and Envyus, to his brief stint in Valorant and now back to CS2.

Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt has left the CS:GO roster of team Revenant, as he revealed on Twitter today. At 30 years old, this skilled French rifleman is now an unrestricted free agent.

NBK- is looking for a new home!

During his tenure as the in-game leader at Revenant, his time proved to be quite stormy and brief. As he himself admitted, the team struggled consistently to settle on a stable roster, which ultimately hindered their ability to perform at higher competitive levels. Consequently, they were only able to secure victories in two minor tournaments throughout their journey together.

The French legend is actively seeking a fresh venture as he stands poised and ready for action at a moment’s notice. He added that he is also willing to take a backup role if needed. Crucially, any potential new project should offer the possibility of being competitive in the long term.

The team known as The Revenant was formed in June 2024, and at that time it consisted of Adelin “adeX”, Laurențiu “lauNX” Țârlea, Nabil “Nivera”, and Kamil “reiko”. Back then, NBK served as the team captain, who also took on additional responsibilities as he mentioned.

A fresh team has come together, and they are now prepared to conquer the world of Counter-Strike 2.

“Natural Born Killer” – a legend of the game

It’s a real pity to see NBK, who is undoubtedly a legendary figure, still without a team. His most triumphant periods stem from the early days of CS:GO, where he won his first Major with Team LDLC way back in 2014, followed by another victory with Envyus in 2015. Often referred to as the “Kingmaker,” NBK is renowned for his exceptional supportive play and his role in shaping various rosters.

Since around a year goes by and NBK changes teams, starting with G2 in 2017, followed by Vitality in 2018, then OG towards the end of 2019. He left CS:GO in early 2021 to focus on Valorant, but returned to CS in 2022. He has played for MOUZ, Falcons, and currently Revenant, often serving as an in-game leader. These teams have generally found it challenging to perform at the highest level, with his last Major appearance being over five years ago, specifically at the 2019 Starladder Berlin tournament.

He is now crossing his fingers that his past knowledge and education will be sufficient for him to secure another home. Here’s hoping it works out.

What’s your take on this? Is it possible that NBK could continue excelling at the professional level, or might it be more suitable for him to pursue a full-time coaching career now?
