As a long-standing Oasis fan who has attended countless gigs since “Definitely Maybe” was still just a dream, I find myself caught between excitement for the band’s reunion tour and frustration over the ongoing saga of ticket sales. The news that thousands of tickets may be canceled due to resale on secondary markets feels like another blow to fans who have been eagerly waiting for this moment.
Fans of the band Oasis might be in for a letdown as promoters consider scrapping around 50,000 tickets purchased through resale platforms. This development has left many questioning whether their tickets will still be valid when the reunion tour begins. Moreover, there is growing concern about the motive behind this cancellation. Here’s what we know so far.
Ticketmaster to cancel Oasis tickets sold on secondary sites
Oasis may encounter criticism since they plan to invalidate numerous tickets purchased from resale platforms before their upcoming reunion tour.
Live Nation and SJM have told BBC File on 4 they’ll be cancelling approximately 50,000 tickets for Oasis’ U.K. tour that were not bought through authorized vendors. These cancelled tickets will then become available again through Ticketmaster at their original price.
According to a representative from Live Nation, these terms and conditions were implemented specifically to combat secondary ticketing companies that sell tickets at inflated prices. It’s worth noting that just four percent of the tickets have been listed for resale.
Originally, 1.4 million tickets were offered for sale this year, but the demand skyrocketed, causing many of them to be swiftly posted on unapproved platforms at marked-up prices. To counteract this problem, fans were advised to buy tickets only through Ticketmaster or their legitimate reseller partner, Twickets.
Approximately 4% of tickets, or about 50,000, were discovered on secondary marketplaces, as stated by Live Nation and SJM. The cancellation process will commence shortly for those who suspect their tickets were inappropriately voided. If you find yourself in this situation, reach out to the ticket agents for assistance. Additionally, Ticketmaster disclosed that they thwarted around 250 million potentially fraudulent activities on the day tickets for the Oasis tour became available. Live Nation and SJM have vowed to keep an eye on secondary websites and will report any suspicious activity to law enforcement when required.
