As a dedicated WWE fan with a soft spot for underdog stories, I can confidently say that Dominik Mysterio‘s journey has been nothing short of captivating. His transformation from a struggling fan favorite to a respected heel has been nothing short of remarkable.
Dominik Mysterio gained popularity after his shift in character and joining The Judgment Day. He first appeared in 2020, initially partnering with his legendary father, Rey Mysterio, who is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.
In the early stages of my gaming journey, I shared victory with my old man, creating history as the first father-son combo to claim the Tag Team Championship. Yet, even with our accomplishments, fans found it tough to bond with me. That all shifted when I decided to go rogue and team up with The Judgment Day in 2022.
This shocking decision revealed a new, darker side of Dominik Mysterio, allowing him to resonate with fans. While he began to enjoy success in his career, he recently explained that this transformation was not the key to earning respect from WWE peers. Instead, he credited working on WWE RAW, NXT, and SmackDown last year for helping him gain the respect of his peers.
Dominik Mysterio reflects on earning respect from WWE stars
Lately, WWE RAW’s Dominik Mysterio chatted on Chris Van Vliet’s show, Insights, about the process he went through to win over his fellow performers while maintaining a rigorous traditional workload.
Dominik acknowledged this by saying, “He began to notice changes when he shifted to NXT and juggled NXT shows, Raw events, live events, and occasional SmackDown dark matches and TV appearances. He admitted that he was essentially following the traditional ‘work-every-day’ routine.
He went on saying, “I believe my actions earned some respect from them. You know, they’d often spot me around and give this reaction: ‘Man, don’t you ever take a break?’ My response was usually, ‘Well, I’m here.’ Now, it’s possible they dislike me, but given the number of boys who approached me to say, ‘You follow that traditional routine,’ I assume…” (assume meaning presume or believe)
As a gamer, I grinded hard and earned my peers’ respect with an old-school schedule that was nothing short of brutal. Last year, I even snatched the NXT North American Championship, adding another trophy to my collection. In 2023, I battled it out and ended up second in the most matches played, with Cody Rhodes taking the top spot. On top of that, I juggled appearances on RAW and NXT while also throwing down in dark matches for SmackDown. It’s been a grind, but every victory feels like leveling up in this game called life.
