As a seasoned gamer who’s seen his fair share of gaming landscapes, I can confidently say that Marvel Snap is a breath of fresh air for newbies like myself. The game’s strategic approach to introducing its mechanics and gradually ramping up the challenge is truly commendable.
For beginners in any video game, it might seem overwhelming at first. However, Marvel Snap excels at easing players into understanding its fundamental aspects, gradually increasing complexity as more card types become accessible.
In this game, advancement is controlled through a system that unlocks card access when specific ‘collection milestones’ (represented by the green number connected to your account) are reached. This means that players can only use cards from a designated group once they have met these milestones.
For instance, from levels 18 to 214, you’ll exclusively get cards from Pool One. These cards are intentionally created to complement each other effectively within the pool.
Limiting the types of cards you can use in your deck makes it impossible for novice players to construct certain decks.
But if you want to progress, you will need to know what the best decks are at these levels, and to help you out we have put together the best beginner decks for Marvel Snap.
You can check them out below.
Discard Aggro
This profile is a tried and true use of the discard mechanic in Marvel Snap.
You’ve got a set of go-to cards with fantastic combos such as Ant-Man, Squirrel Girl, and Kazar, which can practically dominate any battlefield.
You should consider utilizing Lady Sif, Master of Sword and Blades, taking advantage of their unique discard abilities. Later, choose to discard either Wolverine for a +2 effect or Apocalypse for a +4 effect. Apocalypse will reappear in your hand, while Wolverine will be moved to a random spot on the game board.
Ongoing Deck
As a gamer, I find myself deeply immersed in a Marvel Snap deck that centers around the ‘Ongoing’ mechanic. It’s quite forgiving, making it easy to get the hang of, and its simplicity belies its power. The core strategy revolves around amplifying Ant-Man’s prowess through teamwork with heavy hitters like Captain America, Nightcrawler, Colossus, or really any character that can lend a helping hand.
In a scenario where you’re aiming for a move on turn 6, Iron Man could prove incredibly beneficial as he can amplify a location twice. On the other hand, if you’re looking to intensify the ongoing effects of cards situated at your locations, Spectrum would be an excellent choice.
It’s best to position Namor individually, either on the far right or left side. Placing Mr. Fantastic centrally can enhance both characters, making this setup optimal.
On Reveal
Building this ‘On Reveal’ mechanic deck will be quite straightforward when you’re just starting out, thanks to the fact that you gain access to about half of the deck from the early stages and have the guidance of the tutorial. This certainly makes the process much smoother!
In this game, our primary goal is to bring out Devil Dinosaur at some point. Each card you have in your hand adds +2 to his power, so it’s best to play Moon Girl on turn 4 if possible. This allows you to copy all the cards in your hand, and then on turn 5, you can deploy Devil Dinosaur for a significant boost. If you don’t manage to draw Moon Girl or find yourself without her by turn 4, playing Odin as a fourth card in any location will give you an advantage.
Additionally, Enchantress works wonderfully by countering your opponents’ moves, while Elektra eliminates any cards with a cost of one.
Hopefully, somewhere in here, there’s a deck that you are wanting to check out. Keep on playing and upgrading cards to unlock more heroes to experiment with. There’s so many possibilities out there.
