As a die-hard fan of the post-apocalyptic genre and especially the “28 Days Later” series, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing Ralph Fiennes share details about the upcoming sequel, “28 Years Later.” Having grown up with these movies, they have undeniably left an indelible mark on my survival instincts and post-apocalyptic survival plan.
New 28 Years Later story details have been shared by Ralph Fiennes.
28 Years After is the upcoming third installment in the 28 Days Later film series, which started in 2002 and continued with 28 Weeks Later in 2007. Directed by Danny Boyle, this movie will initiate a fresh trilogy within the 28 Days Later franchise.
Actor Ralph Fiennes has been chosen to feature in director Boyle’s upcoming horror movie. This film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Jack O’Connell. In an interview with IndieWire, Fiennes revealed some fresh insights about the movie’s plot.
What did Ralph Fiennes say about 28 Years Later?
As a fan, I’d express it like this: “I’m excited because there are three movies in the making, with two already filmed. The story unfolds 28 years into a devastating epidemic that has transformed humans into violent, rabid creatures. Amidst this grim backdrop, it revolves around a resilient young boy on a quest to find a doctor for his ailing mother. He guides her through the picturesque northern English countryside, but danger lurks in every forest and hill, as the infected hide and wait. However, he encounters a peculiar yet benevolent doctor who proves to be an unexpected beacon of hope.
As reported by IndieWire, Alfred Molina (Fiennes) has been cast as the physician in the upcoming movie, with Erin Kellyman and Edvin Ryding also featured in the project.
Cillian Murphy, known for starring in the movie “28 Days Later”, is not only acting as an executive producer but will also return to play the character Jim. As per Tom Rothman from Sony Motion Pictures Group, this reprisal of the role will be done in a unique and expanding manner. (Deadline provided the information)
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the sequel to the trilogy, which I’ve been eagerly anticipating, is tentatively named “28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple.” This intriguing continuation is being masterfully guided by Nia DaCosta, a director whose work in films like “Little Woods” (2018), “Candyman” (2021), and “The Marvels” (2023) has left a lasting impression on me. Can’t wait to see what she brings to this next chapter!
28 Years Later is set to hit U.S. cinemas on June 20, 2025, a release by Sony Pictures.
