Tommy shows he deeply cares for Buck in 911 season 8

As a long-time fan of 911, I must say this season is truly hitting all the right notes for me, especially when it comes to my beloved character, Buck. Over the years, we’ve seen him go through thick and thin, with his romantic life being a constant source of heartbreak. But this time around, it seems like he has found a gem in Tommy, who, much like Buck, treats others with kindness and respect.

For quite some time now, our heartfelt wish for Buck has been that someone would reciprocate his kindness and respect as he extends it to others. Remarkably, he seems to have found that special individual within the context of 911.

Caution: This post contains some SPOILERS for 911 season 8, episode 5

In the latest installment of 911, the spotlight was on the dynamic between Buck and Tommy, set against a backdrop of Halloween. Following an arm dislocation, Buck finds himself at the hospital, promptly joined by a concerned Tommy. Even lending an ear to Buck’s belief that he might be jinxed!

As a gamer, I’ve got to admit, the joke about the curse seemed amusing at first, but it wasn’t long before it started feeling eerily possible. I mean, let’s be honest, the ladies Buck dated in the past wouldn’t have given him a second thought if he had mentioned anything like that. But Tommy, well, Tommy didn’t laugh it off, and surprisingly, he didn’t mock Buck for believing in the curse either. In fact, it seemed like he was hesitant about the idea of a real curse himself.

Tommy was there to look after Buck in 911

Previously, Buck has been wounded and had to handle tasks alone. Various girlfriends would pop in to check on him, yet none stayed as consistently as Tommy did during this particular episode.

After bringing Buck home, he spent the night there. Despite Buck not making it to bed, Tommy didn’t seem to mind. There was no disagreement about Buck staying up for his cowboy research studies. It’s possible there might have been if events hadn’t shifted due to the boils on Buck’s face, but I doubt that would be typical of Tommy. He’s transformed; he’s matured significantly since we first encountered him in “Hen Begins.

Tommy surprisingly accompanied Buck on a trip to the cemetery, a choice that, given his previous relationship history, might seem unlikely. However, Tommy chose not to pass judgment and instead gave Buck space to handle things in his own way. In essence, Tommy is demonstrating he’s the understanding partner that Buck requires.

Besides just being with Buck, Tommy was present for everyone. During Denny’s surgery, the entire 118 team was there. Athena was there too, given her close friendship with Athena. Yet, it wasn’t only Athena who showed up – Tommy was also in attendance. It seemed he might have gone to back up Buck, but he expressed his admiration for having a whole family unit. This is something he yearns for, and I anticipate this bond to develop further as the season progresses. Buck serves as the foundation of that connection for him.

It seems that some folks have been hoping for a partnership between characters named Buck and Eddie. I’m all aboard with the relationship development that we’re witnessing, and the show 911 is sending a message that change is possible when one desires it. In fact, Tommy appears to be undergoing a transformation.

911 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
