Outlander Book Club: A Plague of Zombies Section 10 breakdown

As a seasoned gamer and avid reader of historical fiction, I find myself drawn to the unyielding determination of Lord John Grey in A Plague of Zombies Section 10. His thirst for knowledge and unwillingness to let stones lie unturned mirrors my own gaming journey through countless virtual worlds, where every clue, every hint, every seemingly insignificant detail must be meticulously examined.

In the novel “A Plague of Zombies,” during Section 10, Lord John Grey initially contemplates returning to Spanish Town. However, he eventually chooses a different path and decides to journey towards Rose Hall instead.

John consistently gives the impression of being a person who never lets a mystery unraveled. Whenever he learns about something, he feels an immediate urge to delve into it immediately. If he doesn’t, it tends to bother him. It’s no wonder, therefore, that he opted to travel to Rose Hall instead of returning to Spanish Town.

Breaking down A Plague of Zombies Section 10

The chapter starts with Lord John Grey and his troops leaving the Twelvetrees plantation. However, he doesn’t head back to Spanish Town as he originally intended. He leaves some troops orders to protect the plantation and he decides to head to Rose Hall with some of the others.

That evening as they made camp near Rose Hall, they heard the echo of trumpets at dusk. John was convinced it signified an impending attack, and he prepared the men accordingly. However, the night turned out to be peaceful in the end.

This strongly hints at the perils ahead, as there seems to be some mysterious activity happening at Rose Hall. While we may recall Geillis Duncan from Voyager, it’s essential to remember that John has no knowledge of her, having never encountered her before. I can only imagine how intriguing a discussion between John and Claire about her would be!

Moving on with the narrative, it’s now morning, and John sets off towards Rose Hall. It’s evident that we’re about to encounter Mrs. Abernathy.

Could this chapter be used in a TV series adaptation?

This section could be valuable for adapting the material, possibly in its entirety. Given its relatively short length, there’s little excuse not to utilize it due to time constraints.

1st, it’s crucial that we watch John make his way to Rose Hall. It would be intriguing to catch him consulting a map and estimating the distance.
