As a dedicated fan of Darshan Thoogudeepa, I must confess that this latest development has left me both intrigued and slightly amused. It seems that even behind bars, our beloved actor is surrounded by drama fit for the silver screen! The alleged VIP treatment in prison, the mysterious phone calls, the daring escape through the toilet… it all sounds like a thriller script penned by none other than M. Night Shyamalan himself!
Prior to Darshan Thoogudeepa’s bail appeal hearing, officers from the South-East Division have apprehended the owner of a travel agency on charges of providing a mobile phone to the incarcerated actor within prison premises. This arrest ensued after an inquiry into the suspected special privileges granted to the accused actor for murder in Parappana Agrahara jail.
As per an article in The Hindu, it’s claimed that the defendant Manivannan operates a tours and travel business in Banasawadi. He is under suspicion for reportedly providing a SIM card and mobile device to Rowdy Dharma, who shared imprisonment with Darshan.
The report states that it was the Kannada actor who made WhatsApp calls using his phone, which later became widely shared. After the event, Dharma is said to have discarded the phone and its SIM card in a toilet. But, the police managed to trace the SIM number and discovered Yadav, an employee of Manivannan, as the SIM’s owner.
Following Yadav’s admission, I assisted the officers in their investigation, leading to the arrest of the agency owner and the subsequent discovery of the mobile store from where the purchase was made. In addition, the South-East Division police department has taken the statement of the mobile shop owner. The investigators have also compiled a comprehensive report detailing the incident and the suspected prison officials’ involvement in providing VIP privileges within the correctional facility.
For those not familiar, Darshan Thoogudeepa has been detained in custody following his arrest over accusations of involvement in Renukaswamy’s murder. Initially held at Bangalore Central Prison, he was subsequently transferred to Bellary jail. The transfer came after photos and videos emerged on social media showing the actor receiving suspected special treatment within the prison. Upon relocation, police conducted a search and discovered numerous illegal items within the prison, such as mobile phones, knives, and cigarettes.
