Speed 3 Sandra Bullock Comment Addressed by 20th Century Studios: ‘We Are Brave Enough’

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for 90s action movies, hearing about the potential return of Speed, one of my all-time favorites, is like finding that elusive rare collectible in a sea of common loot boxes. The first time I watched it, I was just a kid, but Keanu Reeves’ Jack Traven and Sandra Bullock‘s Annie Porter had me hooked from the get-go. The adrenaline-pumping bus chase scene still gives me goosebumps!

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement over Steve Asbell’s recent response to Sandra Bullock’s hint about a possible “Speed 3”. It’s like a dream come true for fans who have been eagerly waiting to see the return of this iconic action-thriller franchise!

1994 saw the release of the action-packed movie “Speed,” directed by Jan de Bont and starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. A sequel, titled “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” followed in 1997. In this sequel, Bullock reprised her role, but unfortunately, Reeves did not make a return appearance.

During a recent 30th anniversary screening of Speed, Bullock said she was unsure whether or not Hollywood would be “brave enough” to make Speed 3.

She stated that achieving what was needed would demand a significant effort from everyone, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. She questioned whether our current industry has the patience and courage to support such an endeavor. She admits there might be exceptions. If he couldn’t translate his ideas into something for the audience, it felt like failure to her. She wasn’t sure what could measure up for the audience.

What did Steve Asbel say about a potential Speed 3?

In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell expressed that although they don’t currently have definite plans for Speed 3, they do possess the courage to take on such a project if it were to materialize.

“Hollywood is brave enough,” he said. “We are brave enough. We are sitting by the phone.”

Asbell went on, “This is one of those films yet to be remade, and if we want people to return, it needs to be an exceptional concept that ignites excitement in Bullock and Reeves. That’s why they should see it. This title carries a lot of weight for us, and we wouldn’t approach it carelessly or force them into it. Instead, they’d play a crucial role in shaping the idea behind this project.

Speed and Speed 2: Cruise Control are both currently streaming on Starz.
