As a die-hard fan of horror games with a soft spot for the chilling tales of John Carpenter, I can’t help but feel my heart race with anticipation as Nightdive Studios unveils The Thing: Remastered! Having grown up playing the original, I remember the sheer terror it instilled in me, and the thought of reliving that experience with modern graphics is nothing short of thrilling.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Nightdive Studios unveiled a fresh trailer for The Thing: Remastered during DreadXP’s Indie Horror Showcase. This update breathes new life into the 2002 cult classic game, emphasizing its intensified survival horror experience in the process.
The Thing: Remastered still slated for release this year

In a fresh retelling, The Thing: Remastered carries forward the chilling narrative initiated in John Carpenter’s 1982 horror film (notably known for Halloween and Escape From New York). Players will step into the boots of U.S. Army Special Forces Captain J.F. Blake, who is dispatched on a daring rescue mission to Outpost #31, a research facility deep in the frozen wilderness. Throughout their journey across 11 stages, they’ll lead and coordinate up to four non-player characters (NPCs).
In improved quality, “The Thing: Remastered” offers visuals up to 4K resolution running at 120 frames per second. Yet, it’s essential to have a matching display and either a compatible console or PC to attain these specifications. Additionally, players can collect Trophies and Achievements as they progress in the game.
As a gamer, I’m pumped to share that Nightdive Studios has given a terrifying classic a facelift for today’s gaming world. Using their KEX Engine, this chiller is now playable on up-to-date gaming devices, with visuals so crisp they pop at 4K resolution and smooth as silk at 120FPS. The character models, textures, and animations have all been meticulously refurbished by Nightdive Studios, incorporating advanced 3D rendering for stunning lighting and atmospheric effects that create a nerve-wracking, hyper-realistic remaster. This reboot breathes fresh life into the game, making it as thrilling as ever for modern gamers like me!
In the icy expanse of the arctic tundra, an enigmatic shape-shifting extraterrestrial has eliminated the team at U.S. Outpost #31 research station. The synopsis for the game The Thing: Remastered goes like this: Players find themselves in the footsteps of Captain J.F. Blake, head of a United States Army Special Forces rescue unit dispatched to explore the terrifying incidents depicted in the original The Thing movie. As they battle against the harsh conditions and the threat of infection by a monstrous being, Blake must maintain unity among his squad by earning their trust and preventing their fear and suspicion from overpowering them… or him.
This year, we’re bringing back “The Thing: Remastered” on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, we haven’t announced the exact launch date just yet.
