Ubisoft confirms the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team has been disbanded

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must say I’m saddened by the news of Ubisoft disbanding the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This game was a gem, a refreshing take on a classic franchise that I’ve followed since its inception.

Over the past week, concerns arose about Ubisoft possibly dismantling the team at their Montpellier studio who developed Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. In recent comments from the company and its management, it appears this is indeed the case; however, they haven’t indicated any plans for widespread layoffs in conjunction with these actions yet.

In a recent communication with Eurogamer and via their social media platforms, Ubisoft announced that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team is shifting focus to new endeavors, as confirmed by Senior Producer Abdelhak Elguess.

I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous love and appreciation you’ve all shown towards Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. It seems that we’ve both enjoyed the game immensely, and I’m delighted about it!

Plans are underway to debut The Lost Crown on Mac platforms after its debut on Steam. Despite this, whispers suggest that sales for The Lost Crown didn’t meet expectations, which may have halted the potential sequel. It’s unfortunate given the positive reception of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, particularly at Shacknews. However, the Prince of Persia franchise has many ongoing projects, including the Sands of Time remake and The Rogue: Prince of Persia in early access development.

Regardless, it’s a shame to see that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown didn’t get more love. Stay tuned for more updates on the franchise and Ubisoft Montpellier, right here at Shacknews.
