What happens in the Maria trailer?
In simple terms, the trailer for “Maria” offers a glimpse into the reflections of Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Maria Callas, as she looks back at her life, career, personal relationships, and other significant aspects, during the last stages of her life.
Angelina Jolie, an Academy Award winner, portrays Maria Callas, a renowned 20th-century performer, in director Pablo Larrain’s operatic biopic titled ‘Maria’. The movie chronicles the American-Greek soprano’s life as she secludes herself in Paris following years of glamour and turmoil in the public spotlight. In this film, Maria presents a reinterpretation of the legendary soprano during her later years, where she grapples with her identity and reflects on her life.
Maria’s script was penned by Steven Knight. The film is co-produced by Larraín, Juan De Dios Larraín, Jonas Dornbach, and Lorenzo Mieli.
Joining Angelina Jolie in this film are Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Valeria Golino, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Haluk Bilginer. Massimo Cantini Parrini is responsible for costumes, Guy Hendrix Dyas handles production design, and Ed Lachman takes charge of cinematography.
Larraín has gained recognition for directing movies like Jackie (2016) starring Natalie Portman, Spencer (2021) with Kristen Stewart, No (2012), The Club (2015), Ema (2019), and his latest work, El Conde (2023).
Larraín expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating once more with the dedicated Netflix team on their movie. He described the film as his most intimate piece of work to date, a depiction of Maria Callas that delves into her creative mind and personal struggles. It’s a portrayal of a woman who spent her life performing for audiences worldwide, only to eventually find her own voice, identity, and sing for herself. Larraín feels privileged to bring this story to life and share it globally, just as Maria shared her own life with the world.
