As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in film and technology, I must say that Ram Gopal Varma’s latest move is both fascinating and concerning. The use of AI to create deepfake videos has been an intriguing topic for quite some time now, but seeing it applied to iconic scenes from The Godfather is a whole new level.
Ram Gopal Varma recently took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share a throwback deepfake video of Malayalam actors Mohanlal, Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, and Dulquer Salmaan from an iconic scene of The Godfather.
Last year’s widely circulated deepfake video has reappeared, now being shared by Ram Gopal Varma. He also included a message with the link, “Thank you AI-generated videos for rendering traditional video evidence obsolete. This is merely the start…
Look at this amazing scene from The Godfather, reimagined with Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Fahadh Faasil – you won’t believe your eyes!” The director continued.

In a reimagined setting, an AI-created video portrays a heated discussion or argument between characters played by Malayalam actors such as Mohanlal, Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, and Dulquer Salmaan – reminiscent of the iconic scene between Michael Corleone and Moe Greene within a casino.
In this revised version, Mohanlal took over Al Pacino’s role while Mammootty assumed Alex Rocco’s character, Moe. Additionally, Fahadh Faasil’s visage replaced John Cazale, who played Fredo Corleone, Michael’s elder brother in the movie.
The entire video demonstrated the ability of AI to manipulate existing videos, and it appears that RGV’s resharing of this old video was with this intention in mind. Originally, the creator of the video had explained in a past report that they made it as a way to educate about how AI could produce videos that closely resemble real footage.
Looking at Ram Gopal Varma’s body of work, the director behind Shiva recently completed a film titled Vyuham. This 2024 political thriller tells the story of the unexpected demise of Andhra Pradesh’s ex-Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and the subsequent formation of the YSR Congress Party, led by his son Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, in the aftermath of these events.
Ajmal Ameer starred as the main character, but the movie faced criticism due to accusations of propagandistic content. Additionally, the director made a brief appearance in the film “Kalki 2898 AD,” which was led by Prabhas and directed by Nag Ashwin.
