As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as Zoe Saldaña bids adieu to her role as Gamora in the MCU. Her character has been a staple in my gaming and movie-watching life, embodying the fierce, resilient, and badass female hero that I’ve always admired.
Zoe Saldana feels that her tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is complete, yet she harbors a single hope regarding the possible future development of the character Gamora.
What did Zoe Saldaña say about Gamora?
In a recent chat with Variety, Saldaña expressed her belief that she’s finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy series following her portrayal of Gamora. Regarding Gamora’s possible future, however, there’s one scenario she still holds onto hope for.
Saldaña proposes that the character of Gamora should be portrayed by a woman of color. She suggests this change and encourages people to see the unique qualities and perspectives a diverse Gamora could bring to the role, similar to how she brought Star Trek’s Nyota Uhura to life with Nichelle Nichols’ blessing.

It’s not too unexpected that Saldaña is departing from the MCU, considering the ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in late 2023 suggested that Star-Lord, Mantis, Gamora, Drax, and Nebula were parting ways through time. The film concluded with a new team, the New Guardians – Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp – embarking on a mission, led by Rocket Raccoon.
At present, there’s no official announcement about a fourth movie for the Guardians of the Galaxy series. However, a hint at the end of Vol. 3 suggests that Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, will reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) at some point in the future. If a fourth installment were to be produced, it would likely be directed by someone other than James Gunn, as he is currently bound by an exclusivity contract with DC Studios.
