Meet actor-director who began career as child artist at 14, changed his real name on parents' advice, and was once caught in ugly spat with news anchor

As I delve deeper into the captivating journey of Vishwak Sen, I am struck by his indomitable spirit and versatility that spans across various realms of the film industry. His meteoric rise from acting to direction, and even a brief brush with controversy, has only served to strengthen his resolve and cement his position as an actor par excellence.

Discuss a versatile figure in the Telugu film industry, Vishwak Sen, who adjusted his name following his parents’ guidance. Known initially as a child artist at 14, he resurfaced in a significant role in 2017 after a hiatus. His run-in with a news anchor on live television garnered attention for an unconventional reason.

Who is Vishwak Sen?

Born on March 29, 1995, in Hyderabad as Dinesh Naidu, Vishwak Sen later adopted this stage name at his parents’ recommendation, who are Karate Raju and Uma. Before embarking on a film career as a leading actor, he made the change. According to IMDb, Vishwak Sen earned a degree in journalism from Hyderabad’s Little Flower College. Subsequently, this Telugu actor pursued a career in theater in Mumbai.

Why did Vishwak Sen change his name?

Reflecting on an insightful conversation from earlier this year, I found myself reminiscing about a fascinating revelation shared by Vishwak Sen – the transformation of his identity from Dinesh Naidu, his birth name. He disclosed that it was not his decision, but rather a life-changing idea initiated by his parents that led to this significant shift. This alteration, as he expressed, positively impacted his life in ways beyond measure.

According to Republic World, he stated that his debut film, “Vellipomaake,” was postponed by a year and a half. During this period, the poster displayed only his name as Dinesh Naidu. His parents changed his name due to their belief in numerology. It was an unusual sensation for him since his name change occurred after he had matured. After the name change, “Vellipomaake” was launched within two weeks. At the same time, “Faluknama Das” was still in pre-production, and he fortunately got the opportunity to join the cast of “Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.

Additionally, in the very same conversation, Vishwak expressed strong confidence and conviction in numerology, astrology, and Vaastu Shastra. He mentioned that his choice to change his name marked a significant shift in his life trajectory.

Vishwak Sen’s filmography

2009 saw the first acting appearance of Vishwak Sen in the Telugu movie “Bangaru Babu.” At 14, he had previously worked as a child artist with Jagapathi Babu and Meera Jasmine. However, it was only in 2017 that Vishwak Sen returned to the Telugu film industry as a leading actor, starring in the film “Vellipomakey.” Directed by Ali Mohammad, this movie paired Vishwak Sen with Nithyasree Reddy as the female lead.

In Vellipomakey, we follow the story of Chandu who finds himself smitten with a young lady, only to have his heart broken when she declines his marriage proposal. However, things start looking up for Chandu as another woman reaches out to him via social media. Despite the movie bombing at the box office, Vishwak Sen’s acting skills earned him widespread recognition.

Following this, the actor graced Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam’s movie Ee Nagaranki Emaindhi in 2018. This comedy-drama received favorable criticism and was a hit at the box office. Post his acting stint, Vishwak Sen ventured into direction and made his directorial bow in 2019 with the film Falaknuma Das, where he also starred as the main actor.

The crime-action movie was a modern adaptation of the 2017 Malayalam film “Angamaly Diaries.” Following this, Vishwak Sen’s next venture was HIT: The First Case, which hit screens in 2020 under actor Nani’s production. This investigative thriller delves into a police officer’s challenging journey to unravel the enigma surrounding a woman who vanished without a trace.

Additionally, some of Vishwak Sen’s standout performances are found in the films Paagal, Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam, Ori Devuda, Mukhachitram, Das Ka Dhamki, Boo, Gaami, and Gangs of Godavari.

Vishwak Sen’s fight with News anchor

2022 saw Vishwak Sen making headlines following an interview on a news channel. However, the discussion between the actor and the news anchor took a turn for the worse when the former labeled Vishwak Sen as “a troubled soul” and “Mad Sen.” The situation escalated, leading to the news anchor requesting the actor to vacate the studio. Footage of this incident quickly spread online.

Vishwak Sen’s equation with Arjun Sarja

As a die-hard fan, I was thrilled when I heard that Arjun Sarja’s directorial debut would feature none other than Vishwak Sen. But then, the excitement turned sour as the project got tangled in controversy. In a shocking turn of events, the respected actor accused Vishwak Sen of acting unprofessionally and abruptly canceling the shoot at the last minute during a press conference.

2024 found me reminiscing about an event in an interview with Rajesh Manne. Reflecting back, I accepted the film role on the condition it would be a joint endeavor. It wasn’t about walking away or halting production; instead, I sought a brief postponement to gain some perspective. However, I feel he may have perceived my request as audacious given my lack of industry experience. He even visited my home to discuss the matter with my parents. I chose not to prolong the conflict because I came to understand that one difficult day is preferable to a disappointing movie.

Vishwak Sen’s upcoming movie

In Krishna Chaitanya’s Gangs of Godavari, actor Vishwak Sen is preparing for the premiere of his upcoming project, Mechanic Rocky. Directed by Ravi Teja Mullapudi, this movie also stars Meenakshi Chaudhary, Shraddha Srinath, Sunil, Naresh, Hyper Aadi, Harsha Vardhan, and Harsha Chemudu. In the film, Sen portrays the character of Ramakrishna, more famously known as Rocky, a mechanic by profession.
