As a long-time enthusiast of the Alien franchise, I must admit that the announcement of a VHS release for Alien: Romulus has sent shivers down my spine and a smile across my face. Growing up in the 80s and early 90s, the VHS tape was the pinnacle of home entertainment. The scratchy sound, the fast-forwarding to skip through commercials, and that satisfying click as you rewound the tape – there’s a certain nostalgia that only a VHS can provide.
Romulus” revolves around a team of young workers in a colony investigating an alien spaceship crash site, where evidence suggests a fierce battle between the aliens and another group. The wrecked ship is now on course to reach your home, and it’s equipped with technology that appears almost archaic.
Additionally, on December 3, they will also make available a selection of VHS tapes for avid collectors, alongside the DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Releasing it on old-school media in the 20th century adds an entertaining quirk for enthusiasts of the series and physical format lovers.
In recent times, there’s been much debate about the potential demise of traditional, physical media due to the surge of streaming and cloud services. It’s not unusual to encounter resistance or skepticism against such predictions. However, the announcement of a VHS release nowadays is truly unexpected.
Speaking of it as “a perfect treasure for any movie enthusiast“, the VHS edition will feature a fully playable cassette, designed to mark the franchise’s 45-year milestone.
Further information concerning this exceptional edition, such as its quantity and cost, has yet to be disclosed. However, it’s important to note that the VHS version may not contain all the additional features that the Blu-ray and DVD versions are planned to offer. These include special featurettes with Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott, behind-the-scenes content, as well as extended scenes.
