New info about next year's CoD leaked; 8-player Zombies, "Wall-Jumping" & more

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the news about Black Ops 7 has me buzzing like a caffeinated bee! The return of David Mason and a focus on espionage in the campaign has me reminiscing about the good old days of Black Ops 2.

For a while now, it’s been clear that after Black Ops 6, we’ll jump straight into another Black Ops title, predominantly featuring remade maps and classic game modes. Just like Modern Warfare 3 followed Modern Warfare 2 last year, offering up remakes of older maps.

Currently, we’ve gotten some initial information on what seems to be the upcoming game in 2025, tentatively titled Black Ops 7, and it certainly seems promising!

Black Ops 7 will lean into advanced movement and large-scale Zombies

A leaker in the CoD scene has recently shared a number of details about next year’s game, which they claim come from “some silly goober [who] managed to get into a focus group meeting”. Below you can find a breakdown by mode of all the new info.

Campaign

  • The campaign is a covert ops story set in the year 2035, with David Mason (from Black Ops 2) as the main character.
  • This time, the game focuses more on espionage, with a central theme of information warfare.

Multiplayer

  • The human shield mechanic will be returning. But in BO7, human shields will now be able to have grenades stuck to them.
  • Omnimovement will return, and they will also add wall-jumping.
  • The game will feature classic maps and modes from the Black Ops franchise. Uplink is returning, along with Face Off and the next-gen favorite, Gunfight.
  • A new networked perks system now allow perks to be shared between players.

Zombies

  • In 2025, the focus will be on round-based gameplay.
  • BO7 will feature one of the largest maps ever in the game.
  • A transportation system similar to Tranzit will be included to move around the map.
  • Zombies will have an 8-player mode.

And that’s the lot, quite an info dump!

It remains unclear if the information leak is authentic, as Activision has not issued an official comment. However, the changes seem consistent with what one might anticipate from the developers at Treyarch, who are known to be working on the Call of Duty game scheduled for release in 2025.

Are you looking forward to these modifications? While we appreciate most of them, the networked reward system seems a bit complex and potentially confusing.
