As a long-time fan of Alicia Silverstone, I couldn’t be more thrilled to see her join the cast of Bugonia! Ever since her iconic roles in the 90s, she’s been a staple in my movie collection, from Clueless to The Babysitter. I remember watching her as Batgirl in Batman & Robin, and even though it wasn’t everyone’s favorite Batman film, it holds a special place in my heart!
It’s reported by Variety that Alicia Silverstone will be part of the cast for Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming science fiction film titled “Bugonia”. The film already boasts stars like Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
Silverstone gained prominence during the 1990s for her numerous film appearances, which included movies such as Clueless, Batman & Robin, True Crime, The Babysitter, and others. Notably, she will also be featured in the upcoming A24 production titled Y2K, a comedy-horror disaster movie.
Silverstone has previously collaborated with Lanthimos, having starred in the 2017 film “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” which earned an Academy Award nomination.
Who else is in the Bugonia cast?
In the upcoming movie, Silverstone joins Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, but the rest of the cast has yet to be revealed. The plot revolves around two youths fixated on conspiracy theories who abduct a corporate CEO, whom they suspect is an extraterrestrial bent on Earth’s destruction.
Bugonia hails from the 2003 South Korean science fiction film “Save the Green Earth!” that was masterminded by director Jang Joon-hwan.
2003 film synopsis: “Character Lee Byeong-gu (portrayed by Shin Ha-kyun) asserts that extraterrestrials from Andromeda are hidden among us, planning to annihilate Earth. He suspects Kang Man-shik (Baek Yun-shik), the head of a chemical company, as their leader. In an attempt to expose his supposed alien identity, Byeong-gu kidnaps him and takes him to a hidden fortress where he interrogates and subjects the captive to torture, hoping for a confession regarding crimes against humanity and the cancellation of the impending Earth destruction before it’s too late.
The film is penned by Will Tracy. It’s co-produced by Jim Lathimos, along with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures, Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen from Square Beg, Stone of Fruit Tree, and Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko from CJ ENM.
As a thrilled admirer, I’m excited to share that in the latest masterpiece from Lanthimos, titled “Kinds of Kindness,” both Stone and Plemons grace our screens once more. This film will be their fourth joint project with Lanthimos, following their successful partnership on “The Favourite” in 2018, “Poor Things” in 2023, and now “Kinds of Kindness.” Can’t wait to see what they create together!
