In a recent conversation, renowned filmmaker Chris Sanders shared some insights regarding upcoming projects at DreamWorks Animation, revealing that the sequel to their latest science fiction film, tentatively titled “The New Adventures of The Wild Robot 2“, is indeed being worked on.

“100% yes, there are absolutely plans for a second one,” Sanders told Deadline about the sequel.

Two weeks post the movie’s premiere in cinemas, it’s been raking in impressive box office earnings exceeding $154 million globally. Apart from its financial triumph, The Wild Robot has received praise from critics as well. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a nearly perfect Tomatometer score and Popcornmeter of 98%, based on 186 reviews.

What do we know about The Wild Robot 2?

In the upcoming sequel, The Wild Robot 2, Sanders is set to take the director’s chair once more. This new installment will probably be adapted from Peter Brown’s second book in the Wild Robot series, titled “The Wild Robot Escapes”, which made its debut in 2018.

In the summary for the sequel, it’s stated that “Robot Roz, stranded on a secluded, untamed island, picked up survival skills from its unfriendly animal residents and adapted to her environment. However, will she be able to withstand the trials of the human world and return to Brightbill and the island?

The initial episode featured Lupita Nyong’o portraying Roz, Pedro Pascal as Fink, Catherine O’Hara as Pinktail, Bill Nighy as Longneck, Kit Connor as Brightbill, Stephanie Hsu voicing robot Vontra, Mark Hamill lending his voice to Thorn, Matt Berry as Paddler, and Ving Rhames in the role of Thunderbolt. This production was overseen by Sanders, renowned for his contributions to popular films like The Croods, How to Train Your Dragon, and Lilo & Stitch. Jeff Hermann, a veteran producer from the Kung Fu Panda series, was responsible for its creation.
