As a passionate cinephile who has been captivated by the rich tapestry of Latin American cinema, I am absolutely thrilled about Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s literary gem, Pedro Páramo. Having grown up with tales spun from the pages of Rulfo’s works, I can only imagine the magic that Rodrigo Prieto, a cinematographer whose work with the likes of Scorsese and Iñárritu has graced my screens for years, will bring to this timeless story.
Netflix has unveiled the official teaser for the forthcoming movie version of “Pedro Páramo,” based on Juan Rulfo’s 1955 literary classic. This is Rodrigo Prieto’s first full-length directorial project, who is renowned for his work alongside Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams, Babel).

When is the Pedro Páramo release date?
On November 6, Pedro Páramo, featuring Lincoln Lawyer’s Manuel García Rulfo and Tenoch Huerta from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is set to stream for the first time. Before its Netflix debut, this film had its initial screening at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival last September.
This movie is helmed by director Prieto, who collaborated with Mateo Gil on the script. The talented cast features Dolores Heredia, Ilse Salas, Héctor Kotsifakis, Mayra Batalla, Roberto Sosa, Giovanna Zacarías, Noé Hernández, Yoshira Escárrega, and others. Stacy Perskie and Rafael Ley serve as the producers for this production.
The storyline of the movie follows Juan Preciado’s (played by Huerta) deceptive quest to discover the riches of a father he never met, in the town of Comala. However, upon his arrival, he encounters only the horrific reminiscences of a town that had been oppressed for decades by Pedro Páramo (García-Rulfo), who was infamous for his violent pursuit of power and the wrath stirred within him due to his unrequited love for Susana San Juan (Salas). To such an extent, Juan even questions if the townsfolk might be nothing more than ghostly apparitions.
