Everything we know so far about Nobody Wants This season 2

As a long-time fan of Erin Foster’s work, I am thrilled to see her taking charge of “Nobody Wants This” and leaving no stone unturned when it comes to this heartwarming series. With her extensive background in television writing and production, she is well-equipped to maintain the show’s unique voice while juggling the responsibilities of a showrunner.

It didn’t take long for the statement “Nobody Wants This” to be disproven when the Netflix original romantic comedy series premiered on Sept. 26. In fact, it soon became clear that everyone was clamoring for this show. The charismatic first season left viewers craving more, and they quickly demanded a second season.

It’s great news that Netflix confirmed the return of Nobody Wants This, announcing season 2 on October 10, only two weeks after its debut. The show follows the tumultuous relationship of characters played by Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, who are a non-traditional couple dealing with family, friendship, and career challenges – especially since Joanne is not Jewish, as Noah is a rabbi.

Originating from creator Erin Foster and inspired by her personal journey into Judaism, the series “Nobody Wants This ” has resonated deeply with many young women, offering a relatable portrayal of intimacy and relationships. As anticipation builds for its second season due in 2025, here’s what we know so far!

Nobody Wants This season 2 will release in 2025

According to Netflix’s announcement, the second season of “Nobody Wants This” is expected to premiere in 2025. Before the official renewal, the show’s writers had already been given the go-ahead by Netflix to start working on season 2 around three weeks earlier. This was confirmed by Foster in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Although the writers have already begun penning the tales for season 2, it doesn’t imply that we’ll get to watch the episodes any faster. Estimates suggest that Nobody Wants This might return as late as September 2025, maintaining its fall launch tradition for this popular half-hour comedy without visual effects. This timeline aligns well with the series’ production schedule.

Foster shared some insights on The Hollywood Reporter regarding Season 2’s planned 2025 debut, playfully hinting that the launch might coincide with the Jewish New Year celebration.

It takes so much longer than you would ever think. It’s basically going to be coming back, probably, in September again next year. Once a year, the same time, we’ll be really consistent. We’re just going to be a Rosh Hashanah launch, always.

Just so you know, as of now, September 2025 is just a potential date for the release of “Nobody Wants This” season 2. The actual premiere could happen earlier if production starts sooner, which might be towards the end of this year or even at the beginning of the next year. We’ll keep you posted once we have more information about filming updates.

The main cast members will return

Without Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, it’s clear that Nobody Wants This wouldn’t be the same! Thankfully, they’re both reprising their roles as Joanne and Noah for season 2. Joining them are Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons, who play Joanne and Noah’s siblings. It’s likely that many other recurring cast members and guest stars will return for another round, with potential new faces joining the mix as well.

Here are the season 1 main cast that’s all confirmed to return for season 2:

  • Kristen Bell as Joanne
  • Adam Brody as Noah Roklov
  • Justine Lupe as Morgan
  • Timothy Simons as Sasha Roklov

Apart from the four principal actors, “Nobody Wants This” boasts a talented ensemble of secondary characters who are set to appear in season 2. There’s a chance that some of these supporting actors, like Jackie Tohn as Esther, might be promoted to series regulars, increasing their screen time significantly. However, any official announcements about promotions or additional cast members have yet to be made. Here’s hoping for guest appearances from Leighton Meester and Dax Shepard!

These are the recurring cast members we can expect to see in season 2:

  • Jackie Tohn as Esther Roklov
  • Sherry Cola as Ashley
  • Shiloh Bearman as Miriam Roklov
  • Stephanie Faracy as Lynn
  • Michael Hitchcock as Henry
  • Tovah Feldsuh as Bina Roklov
  • Paul Ben-Victor as Ilan Roklov
  • Emily Arlook as Rebecca
  • Stephen Tobolowsky as Rabbi Cohen

In season 2, there will be a change in the leadership behind the scenes as Lena Dunham (Foster) relinquishes her co-showrunning position to Jack Burdit and Jenni Konner & Bruce Eric Kaplan (the Girls team). This move frees up more time for Lena to concentrate on writing for the series and preserving its distinctive style in the future.

According to her statements made to The Hollywood Reporter, she emphasized the importance of dedicating herself to being the voice and writer of the show, stating that being a showrunner is equivalent to having ten jobs. This implies that even without Foster at the helm, there’s no need for concern as Nobody Wants This will likely benefit from the addition of Konner and Kaplan’s vast expertise in the production process.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the season 1 finale!

What to expect from season 2

At the conclusion of their first season together, Joanne and Noah find themselves at a critical juncture in their relationship. Noah pursues a significant career advancement as the new head rabbi, while Joanne hesitates to convert to Judaism solely for the sake of being with him. She wishes to respect the faith and make a personal decision about conversion that she feels confident about. Finding a resolution seems challenging and time-consuming.

As Joanne aims to end their relationship so Noah can focus on his career without any compromises, he pursues her instead and they rekindle. However, both are unsure about their next steps or future. This time around, they’re determined to face whatever comes their way together, even the unforeseen events. The second season will delve into the consequences of their decision made at the end of season 1 finale.

According to Foster, we can expect season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” to resume not too long after the end of season 1, though perhaps not on the very same night. The intense curiosity of “What’s next for Joanne and Noah?” will still be palpable when we rejoin them. Unlike some shows, there won’t be a significant time leap that addresses many questions without our direct involvement. As Foster put it, “This is a show where viewers want their desires fulfilled; they don’t appreciate being kept guessing. I’m not going to string you along and withhold what I can give.

It’s highly likely that we’ll delve deeper into Joanne and Noah’s family backgrounds, as there are additional tales in store for both Morgan and Esther. Unfortunately for those rooting for a relationship between Morgan and Sasha, any romantic possibilities have been ruled out by Foster. Instead, their peculiar emotions towards each other will be resolved, and the characters may undergo a shift or rearrangement for season 2.

Erin Foster already has ideas for season 3

It seems that the work on season 2 is progressing so smoothly that ideas for a potential third season have already been saved by Foster. Although she initially envisioned an engagement or marriage between Joanne and Noah by the end of season 1, Netflix suggested the writing team delay the story progression, contributing to the show’s impressive pace. Rest assured, we can look forward to those stories unfolding in season 3!

Here’s what Foster told The Hollywood Reporter about season 3 ideas:

I’d like to be employed as long as possible, I guess. There are a lot of stories to tell. It’s funny because, we’ve been in the writers room and so we’re working on storylines, and we keep coming up with storylines and being like, ‘That’s for season three. That’s for season three.’ And we’re like, ‘Should we just make a board and pitch out season three to them at the same time?’ Because, we have ideas.

Erin Foster, creator

It’s delightful when creators share their thought-out plans for upcoming storylines instead of improvising. Additionally, it’s reassuring that Foster is open to collaboration to produce something exceptional. We’re eagerly anticipating the fantastic work she and her team have prepared for the second season of Netflix’s top original comedy series.
