Pride Movie: Netflix Developing a Modern Remake of Jane Austen Novel

As a seasoned gamer of both literary classics and contemporary adaptations, I must say I am genuinely intrigued by this new take on Pride & Prejudice. Having grown up with the 1995 film adaptation and revisiting it time and again, it’s fascinating to see how the story will evolve in a modern setting, especially within the vibrant Bushwick area of Brooklyn.

Netflix is presently working on a movie titled “Pride,” having secured the rights to Ibi Zoboi’s 2018 novel with the same name that tells a coming-of-age story. This new film is said to be a contemporary reinterpretation of Jane Austen‘s timeless novel, Pride and Prejudice.

Subsequently, it’s been announced that the streamer is now working on a fresh take of Pride & Prejudice, penned by Dolly Alderton. Before this upcoming production, Austen’s novel was previously brought to life in 1995 with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen portraying Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy respectively, on the big screen.

What is the Pride movie about?

The story unfolds in the rapidly changing Bushwick district of Brooklyn, New York. It revolves around Afro-Latina teenager Zuri Benitez who strives to protect her community while juggling family issues. However, things take an unexpected turn when the snobbish Darcy family settles next door. Initially scornful of Darius Darcy, she develops an unforeseen bond with him, compelling her to reevaluate her beliefs about pride, discrimination, and belonging.

The screenplay for the film “Pride” is being crafted by Karen Joseph Adcock. The Obama’s Higher Ground Production company will collaborate with Leslie Morgenstein, Elysa Koplovitz, Vinnie Malhotra, Anikah McLaren, and Mark Wright in its production. This project is a joint venture between Alloy Entertainment, Higher Ground Productions, and Netflix.
