The first Good Wife character is coming into Elsbeth (Who is it?)

As a die-hard fan of legal dramas who’s seen more episodes of The Good Wife and its spinoff, The Good Fight, than I care to admit, I can hardly contain my excitement for Elsbeth! The quirky yet brilliant attorney Elsbeth Tascioni, played by the delightful Carrie Preston, is finally getting her own show, and it’s everything I never knew I needed.

Elsbeth fans can finally see a face from The Good Wife joining! Find out who!

Spinoff shows often introduce characters who were previously seen on the original series. This strategy proved effective for The Good Fight, as it frequently brought back numerous characters from The Good Wife. Among these recurring characters was Carrie Preston, portraying the eccentric lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, a fan favorite who won Preston an Emmy.

As I, the gaming character Elsbeth, step into a new chapter of my life, I find myself moving to the bustling cityscape of New York City. My days are no longer just about gaming or hanging out; they’re filled with police work that has me stepping into the role of a crime-solver. What makes this show stand out is its unconventional approach – each episode begins by revealing the identity of the killer, and then it’s all about how I piece together the clues in a thrilling cat-and-mouse game with the murderer. It’s like being part of an intricate puzzle that unfolds with every passing moment.

Who’s coming to Elsbeth?

It’s announced that Christian Borle will once again take on the role of Carter Schmidt in Episode 2 of the second season. This character was previously seen in five episodes of ‘The Good Wife’, where he frequently found himself squaring off with Alicia, played by Julianna Margulies, in court. Borle also reappeared as this character for a few episodes on ‘The Good Fight’. Known for his witty humor and stylish courtroom presence, Borle is a seasoned Broadway actor who gained fame through shows like ‘Smash’ and ‘Prodigal Son’ on NBC.

In the thrilling “The Wrong Stuff” episode, I found myself drawn into the mystery when a billionaire tragically perished during a spacecraft test launch. The spotlight shifted to my rival, Rob Riggle, who seemed to be at the heart of this enigma. As I happened to be in Chicago for some reason (the narrative didn’t specify), it was intriguing to see how this storyline unfolded. It appeared that I might have been working with or investigating Riggle, all while keeping tabs on Elsbeth as well. Our paths crossed during a shared limo ride in New York, and I must admit, I was just as puzzled by his presence in the city as the viewers.

The future is uncertain whether additional characters from “The Good Wife/Fight” will appear, but the upcoming confrontation between Borle and Preston promises to be a standout moment in this episode. As “Elsbeth” prepares for a significant second season, it’s sure to be an exciting turn of events.

Elsbeth is no stranger to big-named guest stars

In an interview with TV Insider in May, the showrunner, Jonathan Tollins, expressed a willingness for some former characters to reappear, yet found it challenging to determine their reasons for being in New York.

In the Season 2 opener, Nathan Lane doesn’t reprise his role as the accountant lawyer Clarke Hayden from “The Good Fight.” Instead, he portrays an enthusiastic opera fan who oversteps boundaries when an irritating theater-goer disrupts a performance.

The show’s sudden popularity can be attributed to Preston’s outstanding performance and an impressive roster of guest stars, leaving fans speculating if any characters from “The Good Wife/Fight” might appear. Interestingly, producers Robert and Michelle King have a tendency to cast actors across their shows, although not always in the same roles.

People keep saying, are you going to have guest stars from The Good Wife? I mean, we’re in a different city. We have very little real estate, and it’s hard because the real money for guest stars usually goes to the murderer. And I don’t think Diane Lockhart [Christine Baranski] is going to kill anybody, I’m certainly open to it. I would love for it to happen if we can work it out somehow. I always think TV fans sometimes think of characters as crayons that you can just pick up and use. But it’s like, there’s budget, there’s schedule, there’s lots of things going on. So it’s tricky.

However, we know at least one Good Wife/Fight character is popping up in Elsbeth for a fun reunion!

Elsbeth Season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10/9c on CBS.
