Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Remake Gets Release Date

As a gamer who grew up with Disney classics, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia seeing the release date for the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie! I remember spending countless hours watching the original animation, laughing at Stitch’s antics and being moved by the bond between him and Lilo.


The live-action Lilo & Stitch movie has an official release date.

2018 saw the news that Walt Disney Pictures was working on a live-action/animated remake of the 2002 movie Lilo & Stitch. This upcoming film is being helmed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who has previously directed projects like Fraud (2016) and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021).

When is the live-action Lilo & Stitch’s release date?

Disney’s Live-Action Adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is set to hit U.S. cinemas on May 23, 2025. This date coincides with the launch of the as-yet-unnamed eighth film in the Mission: Impossible series.

On their official Twitter account (@WaltDisneyStudios), they posted a brief video revealing the upcoming release date. You can check it out down below (for additional trailers and sneak peeks).

In the movie, Maia Kealoha takes on the role of Lilo, Sydney Agudong portrays Nani, Kaipo Dudoit acts as David, Tia Carrere is cast as Mrs. Kekoa, Courtney B. Vance plays Cobra Bubbles, Amy Hill assumes the part of Tūtū, and Jason Scott Lee is featured as a manager for a luau.

In the meantime, we have Chris Sanders playing Stitch, Zach Galifianakis voicing Dr. Jumba, and Billy Magnussen handling the role of Agent Pleakley in our cast.

A tale centered around Hawaii introduces us to Lilo, a girl who feels lonely, and Stitch, an alien with a dog-like appearance that was created to cause chaos. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s description, their bond forms as they deal with pesky social workers and chasing aliens at the door. They connect through a shared understanding of family values, eventually overcoming all obstacles together.

1) Chris Kekaniokalani Bright penned the script, while Sanders and Dean DeBlois wrote and oversaw the screenplay for the initial 2002 film. Notably, Sanders provided the voice for the character in the original movie, as well as subsequent projects like Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch from 2005, and Leroy & Stitch in 2006.
