Back when I first got my hands on this read, it went by a different name. But now, it’s known as “A Plague of Zombies,” and it belongs to the thrilling saga that is the “Lord John Grey” series. As a gamer, I can’t wait to dive back into this world!

What is Lord John: A Plague of Zombies about?

In 1761, our story shifts from “The Scottish Prisoner,” taking us a year forward. Lord John Grey embarks on a journey to Jamaica, where his mission is to suppress the growing slave insurrection in the mountains. Yet, he encounters more than just this uprising as he grapples with additional challenges along the way.

One possibility is: Among these things, one seems to be beyond natural occurrences. The Governor of Jamaica claims to be under attack by undead beings known as zombies, according to one of his staff members. John, however, has no prior knowledge of such creatures, but he can sense that this isn’t a good sign. Will he come to accept the existence of this otherworldly creature once he becomes aware of its nature?

Could it be that John was assaulted by someone whose hands reeked of earth from a tomb, leading one to wonder if perhaps the deceased are beginning to emerge from their resting places?

Lord John Grey is facing quite a bit these days. He’s got murders to investigate, plantations going up in flames, unexpected appearances by characters from his Outlander past, and to top it all off, an individual from his more recent history has resurfaced.

Indeed, Twelvetrees makes an appearance in the narrative, but he’s a new character to us. He is Philip Twelvetrees, the cousin of the brothers featured earlier. It’s always exciting to have a family dispute, isn’t it? Furthermore, there’s Geillis Abernathy, the enigmatic woman who now owns Rose Hall following her husband’s death. Outlander enthusiasts may recall her as Geillis Duncan.

We’ll start reading A Plague of Zombies from Monday, Oct. 14.
