Splinter Cell Remake aiming for 2026 release, a new hope for Ubisoft?

As a gamer who vividly remembers sneaking around shadows in the original Splinter Cell like it was yesterday, I can’t contain my excitement about this remake! Back then, I was just a kid with a dream and a GameCube, and Sam Fisher was my hero. Now, almost two decades later, they’re giving us a modern take on that classic experience. It’s like finding the perfect pair of gloves in a bin full of mismatched socks – it’s the one thing I didn’t know I needed until I saw it!

Currently, Ubisoft is facing some challenges. Their latest releases, Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, have not been well-received, while Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has also been delayed. Additionally, their stock prices have dropped recently. To address these issues, they are planning to launch an impressive number of ten Assassin’s Creed games over the next five years. Moreover, they have some intriguing projects in development that aim to revisit their roots, such as a remake of the original Splinter Cell.

Ever since its unveiling in 2021, there has been little concrete information about this particular venture. However, we now have a rough timeline for its launch.

Finally, good news for Ubisoft: Splinter Cell development apparently well underway

According to a source from Ubisoft, it appears that the remake of Splinter Cell is expected to launch around 2026. This upcoming game will be developed using the Snowdrop engine, similar to other recent Ubisoft titles such as Outlaws and Avatar. During an interview, Matt West, the producer of the game, confirmed these details on record.

As we’re building it from the ground up, we’re going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world. The gameplay experience we are targeting is directly tied to what we want players to feel, to capture the essence back when we were all playing the original games.

This is fantastic new. Splinter Cell was an excellent game, and we’ll be getting it properly remade; not just graphically updated, but also given gameplay improvements for a modern audience. It’s also a delight to hear they want to “capture the essence” of the original, which should mean properly implemented stealth.

Have you reached an age where you might have experienced the first installment of Splinter Cell, and if that’s the case, are you just as thrilled as we are about the upcoming remake?
