Outer Banks season 4 part 1 ending, explained

As a gamer who’s had his fair share of treasure hunts and cliffhangers, let me tell you that the ending of Outer Banks season 4 part 1 has got me hooked like a fish on a line! The Pogues are always in some sort of trouble, but their determination never ceases to amaze me.

Without a doubt, the ending of Part 1 in Outer Banks season 4 leaves us on the edge of our seats, hanging by a thread! In truth, there are several suspenseful moments that keep you guessing throughout Outer Banks season 4 episode 5, titled “Albatross.

Over the course of the season, the Pogues mainly focused on settling their property tax bills. Unfortunately, after John James (JJ) lost all their remaining funds from El Dorado gold in a gamble, the Pogues found themselves in a tight spot. However, Wes Genrette, whom we were introduced to at the end of Outer Banks season 3, offered them a helping hand.

To obtain a sum of $50,000, sufficient to pay off taxes and reestablish their business, the Pogues would receive the amulet that once belonged to Elizabeth Teach, the wife of Blackbeard, if found within the wreckage of his ship. Wes would be the one making this exchange.

Everything seemed to be running smoothly with our plan, but then we encountered an unexpected problem – another, aggressive group was after the same amulet as us. This trinket carries hints about the grand prize, the legendary Blue Crown, a powerful artifact that everyone believes possesses immense power.

Indeed, the Pogues find themselves embroiled in the treasure hunt, despite the fact that it has proven fatal thus far. Farewell, Captain Terrance.

Let’s talk about the Outer Banks season 4 part 1 ending!

Sarah and Pope are still trapped in the crypt in Half Moon Battery

Outer Banks season 4 part 1 ending, explained

With minimal assistance, Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and the Pogues discover the location in Charleston where Blackbeard concealed something significant, guided by a hint on the back of the amulet that suggests a cemetery or tomb where the boundaries between life and death intersect.

John B (Chase Stokes) stands guard outside, while Cleo (Carlacia Grant) maintains vigil inside a church. They stick together! Pope and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) sneak beneath the church and stumble upon a crypt. However, they inadvertently get trapped within it when pursued by a swarm of rats. Kie (Madison Bailey) remains at the Outer Banks to track down JJ (Rudy Pankow).

Simultaneously, Rigo Sanchez (Lightner) and the Captain descend towards the crypt, as well. Pope and Sarah must conceal themselves while Lightner and the Captain unearth a scroll inside the coffin of Blackbeard’s trusted confidant. It seems it has been there since time immemorial, likely serving as a map.

Instead, Pope and Sarah attempt to keep pace with Lightner and the Captain as they ascend a ladder and exit via a tomb, but these malicious individuals securely lock it behind them. In the meantime, John B and Cleo engage in a dispute with Lightner, eventually managing to escape from the situation.

Soon after, rain begins falling, filling the crypt with water. Pope and Sarah observe barnacles on the roof, hinting that the crypt frequently floods. Realizing they could perish, they hastily exit.

In the fourth season of Outer Banks, Sarah and Pope find themselves stuck inside a crypt with two locked doors, unbeknownst to us if they can escape. Fortunately for them, Cleo and John B are standing by nearby. Can they manage to free them? We’ll see soon!

JJ’s real parents are Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff

Outer Banks season 4 part 1 ending, explained

Primarily, let’s delve into the topic of JJ Maybank and the nail-biting twist from the closing moments of episode 5.

Following receipt of a puzzling missive from Wes Genrette hailing from Demp, JJ locates his father Luke (played by Gary Weeks) not in South America as initially presumed, but instead in the Outer Banks. He had been staying with Barracuda Mike. The background details aren’t crucial to this narrative, though.

It’s important to note that Sheriff Shoupe (Callum Moss) arrives at Barracuda Mike’s residence. Meanwhile, JJ and Luke manage to escape in JJ’s boat, making their way towards the large lighthouse. After a brief pause, Luke confides in JJ, revealing that he is not JJ’s biological father. He further discloses that JJ’s mother was not biologically linked to him.

Instead, Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff (J. Anthony Crane) are JJ’s real parents.

It’s quite a surprise! To be honest, Larissa seemed to have an unusual plan – she gave away her baby, JJ, to Luke, who later mistreated him for years. While I can’t fully grasp the logic behind it all, it certainly raises questions about Luke’s actions, and they don’t paint a positive picture of him.

This implication is clear: Larissa, whom Luke described as an honorable lady, seemed intent on shielding JJ from Chandler. I have a strong feeling that something terribly wrong is happening in the Outer Banks, and it doesn’t sit well with me.

Other notes:

  • Sarah and John B are as happy as ever. They’re going to be moving in together and buying a house when this all ends.
  • Rafe has made a huge mistake investing in Hollis Robinson’s deal to buy and develop land on Goat Island. I have high hopes for Rafe’s redemption story, and I think Sofia is the one to lead him there.
  • Topper still sucks so bad.
  • Sheriff Shoupe definitely thinks the Pogues killed the mystery man who washed up on the beach and Wes Genrette, so we’ll be waiting for that shoe to drop in Outer Banks season 4 part 2!

The second part of season 4 of “Outer Banks” is set to premiere on Netflix on November 7th. This half will include an additional five episodes.
