As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in the field, I have seen countless theories and claims about the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin. The latest attempt by HBO to unmask Peter Todd as the original creator is, in my humble opinion, yet another misfire.
Efforts by HBO, an American cable network, to uncover the true identity behind the creation of Bitcoin, commonly known as BTC and currently trading at $62 126, have not been successful. Contrary to what was suggested in an HBO documentary series titled Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, it is Peter Todd, a renowned Bitcoin core developer, who is believed to be the creator of this pioneering digital coin. Additionally, within the last 24 hours, Bitcoin has shown a volatility of 0.6%, boasts a market capitalization of $1.23 trillion, and has seen a trading volume of $26.33 billion.
The HBO documentary indicates that Todd, during his twenties, is believed to have created the Bitcoin network and employed the alias Satoshi Nakamoto to lend credibility to it. As reported by Cullen Hoback, the filmmaker behind the HBO production who tried to unmask the creator of Bitcoin, an old conversation from the Satoshi period was inadvertently made with Todd’s account, exposing some underlying privacy concerns.
As an analyst, I’d like to point out a fascinating detail: the individual known as John Dillon on BitcoinTalk, who subsequently implemented the Replace-by-Fee (RBF) feature, was actually created by Todd. This significant development occurred prior to RBF’s introduction in 2014.
Notably, Hoback proposed that Todd may have blocked the movement of Satoshi’s supposed 1 million Bitcoins, a quantity that remains stationary till now.
As an analyst, I must clarify that while there have been claims by HBO that I, Todd, am the originator of Bitcoin, I firmly refute these allegations. Regardless, I continue to play a significant role in the development of Bitcoin, given its growing importance and mainstream adoption as a digital asset and within web3 platforms on a global scale.
I’m not Satoshi.

Who Is Satoshi Nakamoto?
Over the past 15 years or so, the true inventor of Bitcoin has managed to stay hidden from public view, even though many theories have been proposed. Key figures who contributed to the early development of Bitcoin have either departed this world, leaving their secrets behind, or continue to be part of the ongoing scene.
It’s worth noting that data from Polymarket, a platform for decentralized predictions, shows that no one among its users placed a wager on Todd.
A significant number of Polymarket users placed wagers on the individuals named – Adam Back, Hal Finney, Len Sassaman, Nick Szabo, and Paul Le Roux.
Consequently, every speculator from Polymarket who bet on the HBO documentary suffered significant losses, totaling millions of dollars.
Ki Young Ju, founder and CEO of Cryptoquant, advises against trying to find out who created Bitcoin, as this focus may cause one to overlook the broader perspective. He notes that since Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin stash has not been moved yet, the Bitcoin network stands strong due to trust from millions of global investors, which underscores its resilience.
Market Picture
The unveiling of the HBO film about the inventor of Bitcoin didn’t significantly influence the actual price fluctuations. As per recent market statistics, the value of Bitcoin remained roughly at $62,200 over the last day, with a substantial increase in trading activity observed.
Based on findings from Santiment’s analysis, a significant surge in inactive actions on the Bitcoin network occurred on Tuesday, aligning with approximately $37.4 billion in daily transaction volume – the most observed in the past seven months.
Prior to the release of the FOMC meeting minutes later today, it’s possible that the Bitcoin price may test the support level near $61,500 before potentially bouncing back towards its record high in the near future.
Additionally, it’s noteworthy that HBO is part of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., a company where approximately 165 million of its shares are owned by BlackRock – a significant global institution known for holding large amounts of Bitcoin.
