CS2: FaZe narrowly escape early IEM Rio exit

As a long-time CS:GO fanatic who’s witnessed the highs and lows of FaZe Clan, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions watching their performance at IEM Rio 2024. The team started off strong this year with CS2, but their recent results have been underwhelming to say the least. But, as they say, every dog has its day!

Following an impressive beginning with CS2, FaZe Clan has managed to secure only one event victory so far this year. Since their summer hiatus, they’ve struggled to make significant playoff advances. However, they’ve shown some resilience by lasting a bit longer in Rio.

FaZe Clan stay alive at IEM Rio!

On the initial day of IEM Rio 2024, Faze faced ongoing challenges. In their first match, they were defeated by FURIA, which subsequently placed them in the lower tournament bracket.

Their encounter versus paiN was for survival in the tournament. They got off to a near perfect start, stealing away paiNs map pick of Dust 2 13-9.

In their own assessment, the Mirage map encapsulates Faze’s performance in 2024 so far, marked by numerous messy rounds and errors. This is unusual for a team led by karrigan, who typically demonstrates more precision.

In the opening pistol round, they got completely deleted by João “snow” Vinicius:

paiN won the map in overtime,16-13, to set up a decider for elimination on Nuke.

It was a close affair. The crucial round occurred at 8-8, in favor of FaZe. They won the round with four unarmored pistols to break paiNs economy.

This set up a streak of five rounds straight to win 13-8.

FaZe not only take the series, but also survive over a potential early exit of the tournament.

The series victory was achieved largely due to Robin “ropz” Kool’s exceptional play spanning all three maps. In the entire series, he amassed an impressive total of 61 frags.

FaZe Clan has a challenging match coming up against Team Liquid later today. Will FaZe Clan be able to advance to the playoffs? Could they defeat Team Liquid in this encounter?
