Saoirse Ronan Addresses Rumors of Being Offered Black Widow Role: ‘I Can’t See Myself Doing Marvel’

As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for spotting cinematic talent, I must say Saoirse Ronan‘s choice to steer clear of Marvel’s universe is as intriguing as her performances are captivating. With a career that has traversed diverse genres and garnered numerous accolades, it’s fascinating to see an actress of her caliber expressing a preference for the Bond franchise over Marvel.

Actress Saoirse Ronan has playfully confirmed longstanding speculation about her potential casting in the 2021 film, “Black Widow.” She shared her views on Marvel productions during a recent conversation.

During a recent chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz inquired whether actress Ronan was indeed presented with the opportunity to portray Yelena Belova – a part eventually secured by Florence Pugh.

Instead of directly responding, Ronan subtly inquired, “How did you come across that?” This response from him was enough for Horowitz. Later on, when asked if she had any issues with Marvel-related projects, Ronan stated that she couldn’t visualize herself starring in any of those movies.

What did Saoirse Ronan say about Marvel movies?

She expressed that she doesn’t envision herself participating in Marvel productions. Instead, her preference leans towards Bond films. She acknowledges that Marvel movies are fantastic and holds them in high regard, but she’s more inclined towards bigger projects at this stage of her career. She loves independent filmmaking, but the assurance that a movie will be widely seen is a rare luxury these days.

Although Ronan initially showed reluctance about being part of Marvel movies, her career has remained strong and prosperous. The critically acclaimed actress has recently appeared in Nora Fingscheidt’s film The Outrun. She is set to appear in Steve McQueen’s historical drama film Blitz, as well as Jonathan Etzler’s comedy-thriller Bad Apples.

Regarding Belova’s character, Pugh portrayed her in the 2021 release of Black Widow and made a brief appearance in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. In the forthcoming Marvel team-up movie, Thunderbolts, Pugh will reprise her role as Belova again.
