WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes Sees Darby Allin as the Potential Face of AEW

As a long-time wrestling fan and someone who has followed the careers of both Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin closely, I find myself deeply intrigued by the recent comments made by Rhodes regarding Allin’s potential to become the face of AEW.

More recently, the current WWE Undisputed Champion, Cody Rhodes, showered praise on his former AEW TNT Champion counterpart, Darby Allin. Prior to rejoining WWE in 2022, Rhodes held a leadership role at All Elite Wrestling (AEW) as an executive vice president, working alongside The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

In AEW, Rhodes found himself locked in a tough feud with Allin. These two prominent figures frequently crossed paths, delivering exciting bouts that left fans reminiscing. Joining AEW since its debut in 2019, Allin is acknowledged as one of the key foundations, sharing this status with MJF, Jack Perry, and Sammy Guevara.

Just last week, I missed my opportunity to square off against Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream. For quite some time now, Jon Moxley has been taunting me and finally came face-to-face with me, issuing a challenge for the top contender spot. I managed to earn this position by dominating in the Royal Rampage match, which granted me a title shot against Danielson.

Darby Allin agreed to Moxley’s challenge, placing his chance on the line. But in the main event of the most recent AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Moxley emerged victorious, thus earning the right to battle Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream 2024. Despite this loss, Cody Rhodes, a former executive vice president of AEW, still thinks Darby Allin has the ability to become the symbol of the promotion.

Cody Rhodes shares his thoughts on Darby Allin’s potential

In a chat with “YoJoshMartinez,” WWE legend Cody Rhodes voiced his belief that Darby Allin possesses the potential to become the leading figure in AEW. Yet, he raised some concerns about Allin’s interests beyond wrestling, suggesting they might influence his chances of being the main representative for the promotion.

He stated, “The answer is a guaranteed ‘yes.’ But don’t let Darby fool you, he was never insecure and he was never not confident. Darby is almost overconfident. Absolutely, 100%, could potentially be the person, but that spot is available to far more people than we think.”

According to him, every member of a company think about the politics, but he believes that even if there is “a degree of that in everything,” there is also “so much more fair than you think.” Rhodes continued, “He [Darby Allin] certainly shouldn’t be remotely in doubt on whether he could do that or not, but also the stupid climbing mountains and getting hit by buses, you can’t be the face of the company if you’re not relied upon. You can’t wrestle anybody if you’re in a body cast, so that’s dumb … but I say that with love.”

Currently, Darby Allin stands out among many in the promotion due to his notorious feats, including scaling mountains and executing daring moves. Cody Rhodes speculates that these high-risk actions might influence the promotion’s confidence in Allin serving as the company’s representative.
