Who is Chief at Grey Sloan Memorial in Grey's Anatomy?

As a long-time fan of Grey’s Anatomy who has witnessed the ups and downs of its characters, I must say that this season is keeping me on my toes! Teddy Altman’s return as Chief of Surgery was indeed unexpected, but her past actions have cast a shadow over her position.

In the 21st season of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith managed to preserve the jobs that mattered deeply to her loved ones. However, it wasn’t guaranteed that they’d all return exactly to their previous roles.

In the 21st season, episode 2 of Grey’s Anatomy, Teddy Altman regained her position at Grey Sloan Memorial – or so it seemed. However, an unexpected announcement from Webber revealed that her new role as Chief of Surgery actually meant she was now a cardio surgeon at the hospital.

Teddy found herself in a position where she needed to demonstrate her trustworthiness to Webber, given that she had unknowingly misused hospital funds. Specifically, she took money for a project that Meredith was working on, which Catherine hadn’t approved yet. Although Teddy wasn’t aware of this detail, she should have asked more questions before using the funds. Now, the question is whether Webber might eventually forgive her.

Teddy has a whole speech planned for Webber in Grey’s Anatomy

As I learned she wasn’t the Chief anymore, I sought Owen’s counsel. I yearned to regain that position. Truthfully, she’d make an excellent Chief. The role suited her, and he urged me to discuss it with Webber, which I intend to do soon.

At the conclusion of the show, that’s when she acted. She had prepared an entire speech, but she didn’t manage to deliver it completely.

As soon as she mentioned to Webber that she intended to regain her position as Chief, he made it known without much debate. He didn’t feel the need to argue, even though she claimed she had a speech prepared. Instead, he suggested she “take the victory.” He chose not to elaborate on his decision to step aside, and we were left without an explanation. However, it appears that Winston’s confidence in Webber’s surgical skills is causing him to reconsider his position. Could this be a hint that Webber will return to the operating room?

Will Teddy get to keep her job in Grey’s Anatomy?

Let’s focus our discussion on the episode’s conclusion: What will be Teddy’s tenure as Chief? At the end of the episode, Meredith and Bailey approached Teddy for assistance in locating a scrub nurse and operating room discreetly. They also mentioned needing an attending to help with the situation.

Teddy was determined to avoid finding herself in a sticky situation once more. Unbeknownst to her at the moment, this is intended for Catherine. This implies no unfavorable consequences will arise from it, but as we all know, dealing with Catherine can be quite challenging!

Grey’s Anatomy season 21 airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
