Outlander Book Club: When will we start Lord John and the Plague of Zombies?

As a seasoned reader and avid gamer who has traversed countless worlds and timelines, I eagerly anticipate our journey into “Lord John and the Plague of Zombies.” The title alone sparks my curiosity, but knowing it’s not a genre Lord John Grey typically associates with sends a thrill down my spine.

We’ve finished The Scottish Prisoner. It’s time to move on in Lord John Grey’s story, and the next story is Lord John and the Plague of Zombies.

Here’s a longer-than-usual tale we’ve got for you this month, with more pages than some others. However, we won’t wrap it up by October’s end. And yes, its title does hint at an undead theme! As for Lord John Grey, he remains skeptical about the realm of the supernatural.

When will we start Lord John and the Plague of Zombies?

For many of you, there’s eagerness to dive into our shared story. Reading it provides an opportunity for us to engage and exchange thoughts about the chapters with friends. Therefore, you might be wondering about the duration of this hiatus.

The break won’t last for too long. As it pertains to our upcoming short zombie tale, I’m eager to dive right in come October. Thus, let’s initiate our reading session on Monday, October 14th.

There’s no need to fret if you haven’t finished reading “The Scottish Prisoner” yet, or aren’t prepared to dive into it right away. The articles will stay on the site, allowing you to catch up whenever it suits your schedule.

What is Lord John and the Plague of Zombies about?

In this tale, we’re transported to Jamaica of the year 1761. We find ourselves alongside a man named John, who hasn’t assumed the role of governor as of now. However, he’s on his way there to help quell the ongoing slave uprisings.

During his stay, he discovers the murder of Mr. Abernathy, a prominent local landowner from Rose Hall. You’ve heard of him, haven’t you? There’s actually a time traveler who arrived in Jamaica with ties to this man. As the maroons are suspected of the crime, Lord John Grey is tasked with uncovering the truth behind Abernathy’s murder.

It appears he’s tasked with unraveling another intricate puzzle: The superintendent has gone missing, strange creatures (possibly snakes) are infiltrating the governor’s residence, and there have been reports of zombie attacks causing havoc. Could it be that all these incidents might be intertwined? It seems like quite a lot to handle, but only time will tell if they are connected.

Get ready for Lord John and the Plague of Zombies on Monday, Oct. 14.
