Starship Troopers: Continuum brings Casper Van Dien to VR

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for sci-fi and a penchant for tactical shooters, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming releases of Starship Troopers games! The revival of this iconic franchise in the gaming world has been a long time coming, and it’s not just one but TWO games that are set to hit our virtual battlefields soon.

In recent times, there’s been a significant resurgence for Starship Troopers, particularly in the realm of video games. The upcoming installment in this series is planned for virtual reality, and it’s expected to include one of the stars from the 1997 cult film, Casper Van Dien, who will once again portray Johnny Rico. Starship Troopers: Continuum is being marketed as a VR shooter game.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Starship Troopers: Continuum” is under development by the talented team at XR Games, who recently released the highly acclaimed VR version of Hitman 3, “Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded.” This upcoming title promises to be a roguelike shooter set 25 years after the Klendathu conflict. In an exciting twist, humanity has developed new psychic interface technology that enables soldiers to manipulate PsyCommanders from a distance, much like Cyrano the ferret did in the Starship Troopers movie. What makes this even more intriguing is the possibility for up to three players to join forces in online cooperative play!

Allow PlayStation.Blog to explain:

In Starship Troopers: Continuum, as soon as you put on your Virtual Reality headset, you’re linked into the Continuum, assuming the role of a PsyCommander. You command one trooper at a time. If that trooper dies, you can instantly switch to another. Your objective is to keep them all alive, but mishaps occur sometimes!

In your role as a PsyCommander, you can utilize advantages through the Continuum. As you progress, you unlock additional benefits, known as perks and super-perks, which can be administered to your Trooper to enhance their efficiency. As your Trooper advances in rank, they become capable of activating multiple perks concurrently, enabling you to customize your playstyle. For example, by equipping Psychosis Blast to amplify the damage of your dash move, followed by Adrenaline to decrease the cooldown period for dashes, and finally Tactical Relocation to increase your speed with each kill – you’re creating a speed-focused build!

In addition, the more frequently you utilize your benefits, they grow in power. If your Soldier perishes, a subsequent Soldier can inherit that benefit at an advanced level. This is the essence of Continuum. Despite soldiers falling in battle, the Continuum gains strength, making every soldier’s sacrifice worthwhile and every drop of spilled blood meaningful!
