As a dedicated fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of Islands of Insight, it’s with a mix of sadness and acceptance that I write this. The upcoming October update, though final, brings an inevitable end to the online journey we embarked on together.
2021 has been a bustling year for Behaviour Interactive, serving not only as a developer but also as a third-party publisher. Among the games they published, one that received high praise was the intriguing puzzle game “Islands of Insight,” developed by Lunarch Studios. Despite its popularity, there’s an essential point to consider: it needs an internet connection to be played. This issue was addressed during the summer months, but an update in October is planned to eliminate that necessity and deactivate the game’s online servers.
As a devoted gamer, I’m sharing some exciting news about Islands of Insight: The October update is billed as the last one for this captivating game. This update builds upon the July 9th update by completely phasing out its online functionality. In other words, all online aspects of the game are being decommissioned. Players who have engaged in the online part of the game are urged to move their progress over to continue enjoying the single-player experience.

For what to expect, here is what you need to know:
- The online servers will officially shutdown on October 30, 2024
- Any online progression that is not transferred before October 30 will be lost
- There are no plans for more content to support the offline version
- All the online features will no longer be available
- Puzzles will continue to respawn throughout all zones
- There will be no bug fixes/balance changes with the final update
How to transfer your progression:
- Launch the game, and choose Play Online
- In the main menu, select Account and Click on Download Gameplay Progress
- A confirmation popup will appear: Click on Download Progress to start the download
- After a few seconds, confirmation that the download was successful will appear and you are all done
- Exit the game, and start it again, but this time select Play Offline to continue playing your own progression.
Islands of Insight garnered a positive review at Shacknews, but one aspect requiring improvement is its online functionality. In an attempt to boost player numbers before the July 9 update, Lunarch conducted a free giveaway earlier this summer. This initiative was extremely successful, causing the game’s servers to momentarily become overwhelmed.
Prepare to catch the last Islands of Insight update on Wednesday, October 30. From then on, you’ll no longer have access to the service as it will be permanently discontinued.
