However, it seems these two gentlemen have dipped their toes into an uncharted territory of mundanity, which left me scratching my head more than once.
The intriguing aspect of the latest Apple TV film “Wolves,” featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, lies in the fact that two highly esteemed actors in the cinematic world opted for a seemingly ordinary, unremarkable script to work on together. Is it possible that the lack of exceptional screenplays in Hollywood is so stark, or could this project be a debt repayment of some sort, where Clooney and Pitt felt obligated to participate?
In a peculiar twist for a comedy-action film, the plot revolves around two characters, Brad Pitt, credited as Margaret’s Man, and George Clooney, known as Pam’s Man. They are summoned by a distressed woman who suspects a young man in her apartment might have accidentally fallen from her bed onto a table, giving the impression of suicide. This enigmatic character, portrayed by Austin Abrams, is nearly always seen in this movie wearing just socks and underwear. He repeatedly eludes Pitt and Clooney, as well as various criminals across the city, often in the rain, while wearing only socks and underpants. It’s an unusual sight that I haven’t encountered before in such a genre. One might wonder why this actor wasn’t dressed more conventionally – perhaps with pants or shoes. Navigating the city in socks had to be quite a challenge indeed. The reasoning behind this choice seems to be to introduce an ‘underpants running man’ as a unique element in the storyline.
Was it intended to be comical throughout? I must admit, a large portion of the “undies dash” humor in this film missed its mark – even the friendly rivalry between Clooney and Pitt didn’t quite hit the spot.
Here’s what unfolds next: We find traces of illegal substances and a planned delivery, which unfortunately escalates into a shootout, ultimately culminating in an uninspired, overly familiar conclusion – a scene we’ve witnessed countless times before.
The rating given by Rotten Tomatoes to the film Wolf is a somewhat disappointing 68%. In my opinion, this score is accurate, and I would advise against watching this movie.
