Lanterns: Aaron Pierre and Stephan James Eyed to Play DCU’s John Stewart

As a dedicated fan of both small and big screens, I must say that Aaron Pierre and Stephan James are two incredibly talented actors who have proven their mettle in various genres. If they do indeed land the roles of John Stewart in the upcoming DCU Lanterns series, it would be a delightful addition to an already promising cast.

Aaron Pierre and Stephan James are both being eyed to play John Stewart in the DCU Lanterns series.

Coming soon, the DCU series titled “Lanterns” introduces Kyle Chandler portraying Green Lantern Hal Jordan. This series centers on Jordan and Stewart, who team up to solve a baffling murder mystery.

As of now, both Pierre and James are under consideration for playing the character John Stewart in the upcoming series. However, neither actor has received an official offer yet. Previously, there were whispers that Damson Idris might have been a candidate for the role as well.

Pierre appeared as the character in M. Night Shyamalan’s film Old, released in 2021, and portrayed Caesar in Barry Jenkins’ miniseries The Underground Railroad, also released that year. More recently, he took on the role of Terry Richmond in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, now available on Netflix streaming. Additionally, Pierre is providing the voice for Mufasa in Jenkins’ upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion King, scheduled for release in December. Notably, he played Dev-Em in the DC Syfy series Krypton.

James is recognized for his role as Walter Cruz in Amazon Prime Video’s Homecoming series. Additionally, he has appeared in various TV shows like Degrassi: The Next Generation, Shots Fired, #FreeRayshawn, Surface, and Beacon 23. His movie credits include Selma (2014), Race (2016), If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), 21 Bridges (2019), and Babes (2024). Coming up next is The Piano Lesson, set to hit screens in November.

What else do we know about the DCU Lanterns series?

Created jointly by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios, the series titled “Lanterns” is penned by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. In this production, Mundy takes on the role of showrunner, while both Lindelof and King assume the position of executive producers.

As a devoted viewer, I’d put it this way: “I’m eagerly anticipating the series that chronicles my journey, John Stewart, and the legendary Hal Jordan, two cosmic enforcers, as we delve into a sinister earthbound puzzle. This mystery unfolds as we investigate a chilling murder in the heart of America.

A release date for Lanterns has not yet been announced.
