As a seasoned gamer of the small screen, I can hardly contain my excitement about Meryl Streep taking on the lead role in “The Corrections.” With her illustrious career and an impressive collection of awards, it’s safe to say that she has the chops to breathe life into Enid Lambert.
Multiple Award-winning actress Meryl Streep has agreed to play the main character in the upcoming TV series adaptation of “The Corrections“, which is based on Jonathan Franzen’s 2001 novel. The project will be overseen by Franzen, Mark Roybal, and Nicole Clemens as executive producers. It originates from CBS Studios, and at this point, there isn’t any streaming platform or broadcast network connected to it.
Currently, Meryl Streep is featured in the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building,” having previously been nominated for an Emmy award for her role as Loretta in Season 3. Prior to this, she was seen in Season 2 of “Big Little Lies,” “Extrapolations,” and “Angels in America.” In the latter, she garnered both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries.
What is The Corrections series about?
As an ardent admirer of Jonathan Franzen’s masterpiece “The Corrections,” I find myself eagerly anticipating a potential TV series adaption that’s currently being considered by CBS Studios. This isn’t the first time this novel has been tapped for small-screen adaptation; back in 2011, HBO had plans to develop it into a series, with Ewan McGregor and Dianne Wiest initially set to star. However, for some reason, that adaptation never came to fruition. I can hardly contain my excitement to see how this story of a Midwestern family gathering for a Christmas reunion, spurred by the deteriorating health of their patriarch, will unfold on our screens this time around.
As a passionate reader, I can’t wait to dive into this novel where the protagonist, Enid Lambert, embarks on a new phase of life after nearly half a century as a wife and mother. However, her journey isn’t without challenges, as her husband, Alfred, battles with Parkinson’s disease, causing him to lose his grip on sanity. To add to the complexity, their children have ventured off, leaving home to face the tumultuous circumstances of their individual lives.
The eldest member of the family, Gary, who was once a reliable portfolio manager and a devoted family man, is trying to reassure both his wife and himself that he’s not suffering from clinical depression, despite some worrying signs. The middle child, Chip, has lost his previously secure academic position and is struggling terribly in his new career. Denise, the youngest, has fled an unfortunate marriage only to seemingly waste her youth and beauty on an affair with a married man, causing concern for her mother. In search of something joyful to anticipate, Enid is determined to achieve one last goal: reuniting her family for one final Christmas celebration at home.
