As a seasoned gamer who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless consoles, I can confidently say that Nintendo has earned the crown as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in video games. From the humble beginnings of Donkey Kong to the revolutionary Wii and the versatile Switch, their unique approach to gaming has consistently left a lasting impact on the industry.

For years, Nintendo stands out with its ingenious, distinctive concepts in video game and console creation. This innovative mindset has enabled them to surpass their competitors, particularly in terms of commercial success, for a long time.

However, they’ve managed to achieve significant victories by staying clear of the heated rivalry known as console wars, an approach they intend to maintain. In a recent conversation, Miyamoto clarified the reasons behind Nintendo’s decision to avoid engaging in the ongoing competition between Sony and Microsoft.

Nintendo wants to win with new ideas, not higher specs

During a conversation with Yamitsu, Miytamoto candidly discussed the ongoing “console battles” that started in the 80s, expressing his preference for Nintendo to steer clear of them.

I hope that they will understand and not involve Nintendo in the “console wars” that are said to be about high specs and how to improve the performance of game consoles […] Nintendo will continue to create things that are unique to Nintendo.

As a dedicated admirer, I’d put it this way: I learned that Nintendo aims to shine not just by crafting technologically stunning games, but uniquely creative ones instead. This approach, which they intend to carry forward as they venture into new realms such as film production, truly resonates with me.
