Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol review - this series continues to reignite TWD universe

As a seasoned gamer of The Walking Dead saga, I must say that my anticipation for the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol is reaching an all-time high. Having spent countless hours navigating through the post-apocalyptic world in the main series and its spinoffs, I’ve developed a deep connection with the characters and their stories.

Starting on September 29, AMC and AMC+ will air the second season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” titled “The Book of Carol.” This six-episode season serves as a precursor to the third installment, as AMC has already announced the series’ renewal before its second season debut. In this season, Melissa McBride returns as the central character, Carol Peletier, who was last seen in the finale of the main series in 2022.

Below is a non-spoiler review of the first episode, “La gentillesse des etrangers,” of season 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.

The new season picks up where The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon left off, following fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (McBride). They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend, and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet’s (Anne Charrier) movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France’s future.

The season swiftly propels Carol into high gear with her badass persona. Her narrative unfolds subsequent to her initiating a hunt for Daryl, who failed to show up at the Commonwealth as agreed during a quick conversation over the radio in season 1. She continues to maintain her composed and introspective nature, meticulously observing her environment and picking up on subtle cues that prove useful for whatever mission she embarks upon.

In this episode, Carol’s feelings run deep as she meets a new acquaintance named Ash (Manish Dayal), who stirs up old, hurtful recollections within her. While it’s already known from the trailer that Ash has access to a plane they intend to use for their journey to France, there’s a rich backstory that unfolds leading up to this pivotal moment.

This installment showcases Carol and Daryl embarking on individual yet concurrent expeditions; one in America, the other in France. The contrast between the forest environment and the French landscape creates an intriguing interplay, setting the stage for an engaging narrative as we delve into this season’s tale.

Daryl keeps making efforts to blend in at The Nest, yet finds it challenging to adjust. He yearns to go back to his American family and ponders whether they ever think about him. His heart is set on contributing to their mission in any meaningful way possible.

In the first episode, several recurring characters from the last season make an appearance, such as Isabelle (played by Clémence Poésy), Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), Sylvie (Laïka Blanc-Francard), Genet (Anne Charrier), Losang (Joel de la Fuente) and others.

The first episode lays an essential foundation for future events. Fans are anticipating fantastic developments, as per Reedus who thinks the season finale is the best hour of “The Walking Dead” yet! And when we reach that exceptional episode, there’s more to look forward to, since the series will pick up in Spain during the third episode.

Don’t miss The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, which premieres on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, September 29, at 9 p.m. ET.
