6 big changes in 911 season 7 that will affect season 8!

As a seasoned gamer of the high-stakes drama that is “911”, I can confidently say that the latest season was a rollercoaster ride of emotions! After the unexpected move from FOX to ABC, I was worried about how the show would fare, but boy, was I proven wrong.

911 is back for season 8 so here’s a quick recap of what you need to know from season 7!

Previously airing on FOX for six seasons, the series underwent an unanticipated transformation last season. It was abruptly canceled by FOX, but fortunately, ABC stepped in and took it over. Unfortunately, the 2023 Hollywood strikes led to a delay in production, resulting in a shortened tenth season with just ten episodes.

The series began with an exhilarating start featuring a three-part storyline about Bobby and Athena battling through a catastrophic cruise ship accident. Throughout the season, there were numerous unexpected twists and turns, culminating in a thrilling finale. To keep you up to speed, here’s a brief summary of the key points!

Chimney and Maddie finally got married

Following numerous highs and lows over the years, Chimney and Maddie eventually exchanged vows. Given the circumstances on 911, their nuptials weren’t straightforward; a brain condition led Chimney to experience amnesia, causing him to roam Los Angeles. Fortunately, the team managed to locate him, and although the ceremony wasn’t held in a traditional chapel, they are now officially married and prepared to embark on their new life together.

Hen and Karen made an enemy for a big loss

The opening episode featured Hen involved in a traffic mishap, primarily attending to an injured victim rather than a seemingly unharmed suspect. However, it was startling for Hen to discover later that the man had passed away at the hospital due to complications. Simultaneously, Hen and her partner Karen were preoccupied with caring for their new foster child Mara and endeavoring to legally adopt her.

But then Hen learned the driver’s mother was Councilwoman Olivia Ortiz, who blamed Hen for her son’s death (ignoring her son had refused treatment on the scene). She thus not only blocked the adoption but had Hen and Karen removed as Mara’s foster parents. She also threatened to go after Hen for every bad call she’d made in her career. Thankfully, Maddie and Chimney stepped in by fostering Mara themselves and letting Karen and Hen visit, but it’s likely Ortiz will continue to cause problems for the couple.

Buck came to a new discovery

Previously recognized as the station’s charming charmer among women, Buck unexpectedly forged a bond with someone he hadn’t anticipated – LAFD pilot Tommy Kinard, portrayed by Lou Ferrigno Jr. Their friendship blossomed after Tommy assisted the team during the cruise ship rescue. However, their friendship took an unexpected turn when they shared a kiss, leading Buck to acknowledge his bisexuality.

For the character, it’s a significant change as he grapples with the feelings in his heart. He’s giving a serious attempt at dating with Tommy, while Buck, who has been concealing parts of himself for years, is gradually revealing more of himself to friends. This could potentially mark the beginning of Buck truly living his authentic life.

Eddie lost Christopher

It appeared that Eddie was thriving in his relationship with Marisol and taking care of his son, Christopher. However, he encountered a woman named Kim who bore a striking resemblance to Eddie’s former lover (and Christopher’s mother), Shannon, portrayed by Davin Kelly. They continued to cross paths with Kim, uncovering information about Shannon, and even dyed their hair to match her appearance.

In a turn of events, Eddie found himself in an awkward situation when he gave Kim a hug, unaware that Marisol and Christopher were returning home at the same time. The sight of his father with a woman resembling his deceased mother proved too distressing for Christopher, prompting him to express a desire to live with his grandparents in Texas instead. Given the magnitude of Eddie’s error, it appears this move could be permanent as he strives to rectify the situation.

Bobby nearly died

After surviving so many disasters, Bobby was nearly killed when an arsonist set fire to his and Athena’s house. He suffered a nasty heart attack. Athena suspected it was Amir (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), who had lost his wife in the fire Bobby accidentally started long ago. In reality, it was a pack of drug dealers going after the pair, with Athena managing to fight them off. Bobby recovered in the hospital and decided he wanted to get back to work. Too bad it won’t be that easy…

Gerard is back

Before that fire, Bobby, believing he had fulfilled his duties as a firefighter, chose to resign without informing anyone except Athena. Upon returning to the 118, the team was unaware of his departure, since the paperwork for it had already been completed. The newcomer at the station? None other than Gerrard (Brian Thompson), the former boss who had been known for his prejudiced, arrogant, and aggressive behavior towards Hen and Chim in the past.

In season 8, the team is confronted by challenges involving Gerrard, Bobby strives to regain his position, and the rest of the crew navigates significant personal transformations. Add to that the typical whirlwind of crises that the 118 encounters, and it’s clear that 911 is gearing up for another thrilling season!

911 season 8 premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 8/7c on ABC.
