As a dedicated fan who has followed Bill Hader’s career from his SNL days to his Emmy-winning performances, I can confidently say that this new HBO comedy series promises to be yet another brilliant addition to his repertoire. The fact that he and Duffy Boudreau, the mastermind behind Barry, are teaming up again is music to my ears.
Following the triumph of Barry, Bill Hader is returning to HBO. As per Variety, Hader and Barry’s writer Duffy Boudreau are joining forces to create a fresh comedy series for HBO. In this new venture, both Hader and Boudreau will assume roles as co-writers and executive producers.
What is Bill Hader’s HBO Comedy About?
In simpler terms, according to Variety, the story revolves around a woman living in a small town, who harbors a hidden truth that eventually comes to light. No additional plot or character information has been disclosed yet.
Together, Hader and Boudreau collaborated on the production of “Barry,” a dark comedy on HBO that revolves around a hitman aspiring to break into Hollywood acting. Hader, along with Alec Berg, co-created “Barry” and played the main character Barry Berkman. On top of his acting role, Hader also took on the responsibilities as an executive producer, contributing to both writing and directing various episodes. Boudreau initially joined the team as a writer for “Barry,” later advancing to the position of co-executive producer.
Starting in March 2018, the series “Barry” premiered on HBO and ran for four seasons. The show earned 44 Emmy nominations, with every season being nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. During its run, Bill Hader won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series twice, while Henry Winkler was recognized as the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in season 1.
Comedian Bill Hader gained significant recognition during his eight-season stint on Saturday Night Live. Notable movie roles for Hader include Superbad, Trainwreck, Inside Out, and It Chapter Two. Most recently, he lent his voice to John Krasinski’s IF project. The actor will also bring The Cat to life in the upcoming animated feature film, The Cat in the Hat.
Aside from working alongside Barry on Documentary Now!, I’ve also collaborated with Hader in the past. You might recognize my name from some episodes I wrote for Big Mouth, the hilarious Netflix animated show, as well as Hit-Monkey, the quirky animated series that airs on Hulu.
