As a long-time fan of Adam Sandler and the original Happy Gilmore, I must say that Margaret Qualley‘s story about landing a role in Happy Gilmore 2 has left me both amused and touched. Here we have an actress who is not only passionate about the project but also willing to go the extra mile, or in this case, learn golfing for a part – albeit with minimal success, as she humorously admits.
In a recent chat, Margaret Qualley disclosed how she managed to get cast in the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2”. It turns out, her husband, Jack Antonoff, played an instrumental part by exaggerating her golf skills – even though she’s not particularly experienced in the sport. This tidbit has certainly piqued fan curiosity!
Margaret Qualley reveals how she was cast in Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore 2
In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Margaret Qualley shared her enthusiasm upon learning about the sequel. She immediately emailed her agents saying, “Whatever it requires – I don’t care about the role size. Just get me involved! I’m pleading with you. I need to be a part of this; I’m begging you.” This is how she remembered the exchange.
Jimmy Fallon subsequently showed a text chat between Antonoff and Sandler, where Sandler inquired, “Does your wife play golf at all?” To which Antonoff replied, “Yes, she’s quite skilled.” Nevertheless, Qualley clarified that this wasn’t accurate, stating, “What an excellent husband. And I can’t even play golf. He lied for the sake of our family… I’ve never played a single round in my life. I’m actually terrible at it.
As a golfing novice, I hadn’t swung a club before, but I decided to give it a go with some lessons. Jokingly, I admitted, “I’ve had a few lessons, but honestly, I’m still not great.” However, landing the role in that movie was an extraordinary experience for me. I can hardly contain my excitement when I say it’s the best thing to ever happen to me. And while I’m not exactly a golf pro yet, this incredible opportunity has made me feel like I’ve achieved something truly remarkable, and I can now die happy.
In a delightful twist, Adam Sandler is back as the unforgettable Happy Gilmore in Happy Gilmore 2, helmed by director Kyle Newacheck. This long-awaited sequel comes almost three decades after the first installment. Familiar faces Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will reprise their roles, while newcomers such as Benito Martínez Ocasio (popularly known as Bad Bunny) and Travis Kelce join the cast. The production team has set up shop in New Jersey, with Sandler hinting at his character’s return by sharing a photo of Happy Gilmore’s iconic Boston Bruins hockey jersey on social media.
