The Lovers is an angsty and fun sapphic romance

As a seasoned gamer of the literary realm, I can confidently say that the cover of “The Lovers” by Rebekah Faubion was like a siren’s call, luring me into its captivating world. With a backdrop of fall and a sapphic romance, it was a book I simply couldn’t resist.

Have you ever caught a glimpse of a book’s cover and instantly feel compelled to read it? That’s exactly what happened when I saw the cover for “The Lovers” by Rebekah Faubion, and I knew I had to get my hands on it.

This book not only boasts a breathtakingly beautiful cover, but it’s also a captivating second chance love story featuring two women. Frankly, who wouldn’t be intrigued? What makes it even more enticing is its release date, perfectly timed for the beginning of autumn.

Beyond this point, it seems many of us are yearning for more heartfelt sapphic romances that offer both depth and tension, rather than just being lighthearted or dramatic-free. Fortunately, the novel “The Lovers” truly satisfies our cravings by providing steam, drama, and all the elements you’d expect in an autumnal sapphic tale.

It’s great that Berkley brought this book to my attention and even more so, they sent me an advanced reader copy. This allowed me to read it before its official release and express my opinions about it.

The Lovers is an angsty yet fun sapphic romance.

In “The Lovers,” our protagonist, Kit, discovers that her seemingly harmonious parents are divorcing, which comes at a time when she’s already experiencing some tough breaks. To make matters worse, it’s revealed early on that Kit’s mother is in a relationship with a woman and identifies as bisexual, while Kit herself has yet to discuss her sexuality with anyone, not even her parents.

Given her current hardships, she decides to serve as a tarot reader at an influencer’s wedding. Upon arrival, she encounters Julia, the event planner, who was once her closest friend and sweetheart from childhood. Their relationship took a turn after Kit disappeared following high school, leading to a period of silence between them, creating an intriguing atmosphere of tension.

Additionally, Julia’s ex-partner has shown up at the wedding, evidently eager to rekindle their relationship. Although managing all this might seem overwhelming, rest assured that things will eventually fall into place, and it promises to be an unforgettable journey. The chemistry between Julia and Kit is intense, but they are both trying to maintain a professional demeanor.

In the third act, one character’s actions were harsh but pivotal for the plot development. As they reunite at an influencer’s wedding, much of the story is dedicated to wedding-related activities. However, once these festivities conclude, the narrative becomes more grounded in realism. To be honest, I thoroughly enjoyed how things unfolded and, given that tarot is not often featured in novels, it was a refreshing touch.

Regardless if you’re seeking out sapphic romance or simply enjoy engaging with captivating soap operas, then “The Lovers” is perfectly tailored to suit your interests.

The Lovers by Rebekah Faubion is out now where books are sold.
