AEW Star Mercedes Mone Discusses WWE RAW Heading to Netflix

As a gamer who has been following wrestling for over two decades, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions when it comes to WWE RAW moving to Netflix and potentially shortening its runtime. Having watched Sasha Banks, now Mercedes Mone, rise through the ranks in WWE before her departure due to creative differences, I have a deep appreciation for her talent and perspective.

As a gaming enthusiast who’s also a fan of wrestling, I can’t help but share some thoughts on the recent buzz about WWE RAW moving to Netflix. I’m talking about none other than Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks, who’s had an unforgettable run in WWE. However, after hitting some roadblocks with the management regarding creative differences, I made a tough decision to part ways with the promotion last year. It’s been quite a ride, and I’m eagerly watching how things unfold for WWE on this new platform!

Following her departure from WWE, Mercedes Mone established herself prominently in NJPW before making her AEW debut earlier this year. At present, she is thriving under Tony Khan’s leadership and holds the TBS Championship title, which she earned in her inaugural AEW match against Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing.

Currently thriving in AEW, Mone has shared her thoughts on the upcoming move of WWE RAW to Netflix, commencing from January 2025. This change signifies a substantial transition as RAW is set to depart from cable television for the first time in its 31-year broadcast history.

Moreover, WWE has announced that RAW will revert back to a two-hour program starting in October, after being a three-hour show for 12 years. This change will remain until RAW’s final broadcast on USA Network in December 2024. Notably, Mercedes Mone seems to have reservations about the show going back to the two-hour format.

Mercedes Mone on WWE RAW return to two-hour format

Mercedes Mone, the AEW TBS Champion, has shared her thoughts on WWE RAW’s upcoming move to Netflix and its reduction from three hours to two. In her latest Mone Mag, she admitted to having “mixed emotions” about this change. On one hand, she is pleased that the additional hour will provide “more chances for performers to excel,” but on the other, she worries that the shorter duration might result in “fewer opportunities for the roster.

She went on to say, “It’s tough for talent, particularly women, to secure TV spots. However, there could be a bright side with Netflix. I’m optimistic that it will provide numerous avenues for showcasing talent.” Mone then emphasized her belief in “increased opportunities for talent, resulting in more enjoyment for viewers and greater profits for the industry.” Essentially, she believes this approach is beneficial for everyone involved, especially the performers and fans.

It appears that RAW might go back to having a runtime of two hours, but it’s undecided if this will persist when the series shifts to Netflix. On the other hand, there are indications that WWE SmackDown may lengthen by an hour, possibly extending its duration to three hours. While RAW is planning to reduce its length, SmackDown might be expanding its format to a longer one.
