Josh O’Connor to Star in Heist Movie The Mastermind

As a seasoned gamer of movies and television series, I must say that the casting of Josh O’Connor in The Mastermind is nothing short of a masterstroke! With his impressive resume spanning both the small and big screens, he’s proven time and again that he can bring characters to life in ways that are captivating and thought-provoking.

Actor Josh O’Connor, who previously starred in Challengers, has been selected for the lead role in the upcoming art heist film by director Kelly Reichardt titled The Mastermind.

The project comes on the heels of the box office hit sports movie Challengers, which saw O’Connor starring alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist.

Who’s behind The Mastermind?

Details about the specific aspects of the upcoming project by Reichardt remain unclear, but it’s anticipated that production on this new venture will commence sometime in 2023. The producers for this project are Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani, and Vincent Savino from Filmscience. Furthermore, MUBI has agreed to finance the film and distribute it in certain regions.

As reported by Deadline, “The Mastermind” is set against the dramatic landscape of the Vietnam War, and it centers on a bold and daring art heist.

The movie is one of several leading roles for the acclaimed actor that are coming up next, including the romance war drama “The History of Sound” with Paul Mescal, and the standalone sequel to “Knives Out,” titled “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” He will share screen time with actors like Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, and Daryl McCormack.

O’Connor is recognized for his roles in films such as God’s Own Country, Only You, Mothering Sunday, The Magnificent Eleven, Hide and Seek, The Riot Club, The Program, Florence Foster Jenkins, Hope Gap, Emma, Aisha, La chimera, and Bonus Track.

Beyond his role in the TV adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, this actor has also made appearances on shows such as Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street, The Durrells, Les Misérables (miniseries), and The Crown.

Filmmaker Reichardt, recognized for her simplistic style in movie-making, is the one responsible for directing River of Grass, Old Joy, Wendy and Lucy, Meek’s Cutoff, Night Moves, Certain Women, and First Cow.

Apart from her, she has been honored with numerous accolades such as the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, the Venice International Film Festival Prize, the Alliance of Women Film Journalists Award, the London Film Festival Award, the Independent Spirit Awards, and the 39th Independent Spirit Awards.
