Mortal Kombat 1's First Expansion "Khaos Reigns" Launches Next Week, Brings With It Tower of Time and QoL Major QoL Changes

As a long-time Mortal Kombat enthusiast who’s been through the highs and lows of every iteration, I must say NetherRealm has really outdone themselves this time! The return of Towers of Time, coupled with the QoL improvements, is like getting a second wind for my Kombat career.

NetherRealm recently gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming DLC, Khaos Reigns. It will be released on September 24, 2024, for $50.

On the very same day, an update, provided at no cost, will be rolled out for all MK1 gamers. This update brings back The Towers of Time and introduces some quality-of-life improvements.

The Towers Of Time Returning

Starting on September 24, the free update for Mortal Kombat 1 introduces the popular game mode called “Chronicle of Towers,” where you ascend through nine distinct towers by battling non-player characters (NPCs).

  • The first three towers will be the same towers we have in the game now, where you can unlock cutscenes for the characters or seasonal skins after each milestone level. A new tower will be coming with this patch that will allow you to unlock skins from old seasons that you’ve missed.
  • The next three towers are a series of towers that will change every hour with a different difficulty.
  • In the last three towers, you will be able to test new DLC characters. At the launch of the update, these characters will be Sektor, Noob Saibot and Cyrax, who will be available with the new DLC.

In this particular setting, you’ll encounter tasks exclusive to it. These tasks allow you to gather items essential for ascending the tower. Additionally, every seven days, you will receive Dragon Crystals, a special in-game currency that typically demands real-world money for acquisition but is given for free in this case.

Furthermore, these hurdles don’t diminish their importance; they actually earn you points. These points serve as steps up a ladder in a scoring system, with the ultimate goal being the acquisition of perks such as character costumes and equipment for the combatants, during the season finale.

Quality Of Life Changes For Invasion Mode

In Season 8, there’s an exciting new addition – the long-awaited mini-map for the Invasion mode. This feature allows players to easily locate chests, boss battles, and significant spots on the map.

A less complex yet eagerly awaited feature is the Online Training mode, which allows you to hone your combos with friends or engage in endless sparring sessions.

Here are some significant updates to the game, along with a few minor ones such as:

Phew! That was a lot, but nice work NetherRealm.
